LOL, i seriously feel like there are gains, just really small.

I also like the winding sound i can hear now. It usually shows up at about 3k rpms.

I know exactly what you mean, I feel that too

The noise is the SC (I'm sure you knew that)

It comes up at around 3k b/c thats when it really starts to kick in. I can really feel it start to pull when it his that

It's funny, I just had my intake muffler replaced by the mechanic when he was fixing my car. He put in an "updated" muffler that has been issued by MB for recalls, and I hear the same whine...

thats a good idea....have car dyno'd stock you can actually see what gains you get from mods.

I think that the hose is for the "crank breather" What is does....idk. It was diconnected and I drove like 2 miles...no CEL; so I guess its ok haha

any body have any idea what type of hose to use? Some said scilicone (but thats a lot of $$$) Others said a type of radiator hose....I'm leaning towards that becasue its cheap, easy to cut, and should be heat resistant enough

ideas?
I quoted shivi's comment as relevancy.

Ok, so when I started my car to leave work tonight, the CEL came on.
I stopped by Autozone to have them check the ODB2 code.
It popped a P0410 code
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0410

I'm pretty sure this is because there is no hose going from the pipe replacing the "crank breather" as he put it.
SLVERC230 called it the "egr hose".
I have a breather on there.
(red circle in the top of the picture)

Anyone else that did this, get this code?

My CEL actually came on when I had the ****ty hose on. I thought it was b/c there was a huge tear in the hose and thus a huge air leak

I think that it will go away but itself in a few days b/c the propblem is fixed now

I guess we'll see....

I think it's because there is no pressure going into the egr valve now.

I'm going to get the CEL cleared.
Is it ok to have a place like Autozone to clear the CEL, or should i have the dealer do it?

Hi all,

I have an '05 C230k Sport with the M271. I have all the parts together to do this mod (2.5" dia. aluminum pipe, t-clamps, silicone couplers). My car is in storage right now at an airport, but I will be taking the 30 minute drive out to visit it sometime very soon..haha.

My question is - does anyone know the diameter of the breather hose that runs from the top of the motor down to the S/C resonator/muffler? I'd like to modify the aluminum pipe to accept the breather hose to avoid any CEL that might come up. I'd like to do this before I get out to my car so I can install the new pipe when I get there.

I'm only removing and replacing the S/C muffler/resonator on the front of the engine for now. I may tackle the one under the airbox sometime this summer.

If anyone has adapted the breather hose to fit, pictures would be great!

Thanks

It's about a half inch. I just put a filter on the end of it.
TEAMREDLINE Connected that hose to his intake and said that this takes care of the CEL. I haven't tried it myself, so I'm not sure about it.

M271 EGR hose connection to intake pipe

its been awhile since I first posted my resonator delete and new intake pipes. here are some pics of the finsh. I used earls fittings to make it look nice. If you decide to use a regular hose to egr to pipe it is a 3/4 hose.

for earls fittings need:

3/8 npt pipe tap (to tap out EGR and intake pipe where resonator was, to ad new fitting)

qty of 2 (3/8 to -8 an stright adapter) one will go into egr, and other will go into new pipe where resonator was deleted.

qty of 1 (45* degree hose swivel end, -8 size)
qty of 1 (straight hose swivel end , -8 size)
-8 hose , measure to your lenght depending on where you put your hose on the intake pipe.

Clear your codes on ecu. This will clear your p0410 code

and your done tada. gl all

if the pipes are popping off switch to t-bolt clamps, and maybe try to use at least one hump coupler probably at the top coupler because the lower one looks cramped.

Here is some pics of what I have come up with for a breather hose attachment to the IC piping:

M271 (1.8L) Supercharger Intake Resonator (baffled muffler) removal-sn151221.jpg

M271 (1.8L) Supercharger Intake Resonator (baffled muffler) removal-sn151220.jpg

The earls fittings look sharp Teamredline! But unfortunately I don't have a whole lot of extra money to spend at this point.

But I ended up using a high strength, high heat 2-part epoxy, and a 3/4" lawn sprinkler connector that I beveled to fit the aluminum pipe ($.55!). Drilled a hole in the aluminum piping, attached the fitting and that's it! I've attached a MAF sensor before with this stuff to another car I had, and can't believe how strong it is! Its definitely not going anywhere.

I haven't had a chance to install it on my car yet, but within the next week or so I'll see if I created something that will work.

so basically when all is said and done...all that this mod is doing is replacing the IC muffler in front of the engine with a straight inline pipe...and somehow connecting the EGR fitting back down to the new straight pipe rather than the muffler...correct?

I think it would be a sweet idea for osmeone to get all the parts together so people could just buy them as a set (including the earl fittings and braded lines) that would be awesome, wink wink!

PS whered you get the steel braded lines from? I'd love to add that to the engine bay to spice up the color a lil besides all black rubber!

My question is why are ppl just changing out the muffler/resonator tubing? Why not change ALL the IC tubing to hard metal piping instead of just the muffler and resonator??? Does this pose a problem removing all flexible piping?

Why not go straight to the IC all the way?

Also...are there any upgraded intercoolers? I'd like to maybe take the factory mesh grill out of the front bumper and show off the intercooler???

I also say someone should make a kit...

Im thinking about just taking my bumper off and taking dimensions of the factory intercooler and just doing a job myself on choosing a polished intercooler and fabricating some hard pipes...

TEAMREDLINE - It's been a while since you finished this mod and I'm sure you've had to time to drive... so what are your final thoughts on this mod? Is it worth it? What did you gain from this mod, strictly sound (much of a difference?), power gains, power losses?

All in all, how much did this cost you and how much time did you invest in all?
Any problems or CEL's you ran into?
