M111 (2.3L) Supercharger Intake Resonator (baffled muffler) removal

The one interesting thread in ages on this stinking site, and the guy gets banned for telling where he works, and in turn, his qualifications.
And BTW, I didn't see one benz part for sale on that website, mostly for
Vipers.
I would have like to know where that supercharger muffler is...
that car sounds badass!
I`m reading and searching the forum now for over two hours. But I just cant find what I`m searching for. In some threads i read something about removing a part at the M111 engine that is called "intake resonator" - it should be very easy to remove it and it wold be possible to find an instruction how to do it at MBKlasse - but this forum is dead.
Can somebody tell me how to do this?

Here a picture out of a book i have. It seems there are 2 Variations of the intake-System for the M111 - I didn`t allready look which one i have. I just know that my engine is a M111.981
Which if this parts is the resonator?
Please excuse my bad english, I`m from germany
and I hope you can understand what I mean.

header, but honestly, with pulley and exhaust mods, the engine is plenty noisy.
I left mine in. But I don't remember exactly where I encountered it...
If you remove all the parts shown in your drawing, plus the belts, you can then unbolt the top of the sc, and you'll find it.

But if you are determined, please post pics, and a sound clip for my trouble,
and for everyone else's amusement.
Took me a while to find that pic.

Already I watch my rpm's when a cop is around....
sounds like a bat out of hell with foot to floor. Any louder is stupid.
But if you don't have ASP or exhaust....hmmm.....but whats the point?
It's a 3-4 hour R&R job to pull all that sh_t out of the car to get to it,
assuming you have a clue. Much longer if beer and stupidity come into the picture.
It's only a few more bolts to remove the SC completely.
I thought it wold be more easy, because in this thread https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...take+resonator I read:
What year car. If it is the 2002, let me assure you, it is easy.
Loosen and pull back the intake filter.
Undo the hex bolts that mounted the resonator to the upper S/C manifold.
Unplug the wire harness to the actuator valve (it is by the intake filter)
Unscrew the actuator coupling.
Take off the two hoses. One at the valve cover to resonator, and one at the rear from the cranckase breather/return to the backside of the resonator.
Pull up
This is all from memory, but you can have that black piece off in about 20 minutes if you stop to drink while you do it.
?????

Can somebody post a link to the video or a sound clip for the s/c whine, all i can find are for different exhaust systems
As for the resonator on M111 engines, that's the plastic piece found on the aluminum manifold that sits on top of the supercharger (not part of the plastic intake plumbing in the diagrams above.) It's held on by 3 torx screws, but there are two problems in removing the plastic intake resonator:
1. This leaves 3 holes in the aluminum manifold that you'll have to fill somehow
2. The plastic resonator acts like a funnel that port-matches the manifold to the mounting lip for the next piece in the intake plumbing.
By removing the plastic intake resonator, you'll actually open the exhaust manifold for the supercharger (which isn't bad - you get greater volume, but probably at the expense of slightly delayed boost response), but you'll get more turbulent and less directed flow through the intercooling tract.
Overall - I looked at it and I elected to keep the intake resonator in. There probably exists minimal to nill gains (except noise), and quite possibly could hurt performance.

Bob;
How is the new bambino? More importantly, tell us about the Fcar. Today, a friend with an 89 mondial came over and annoyed the neighbors with a Ferrari V8. Loved all of it. My little 1.5L in the X1/9 sounds like a lawnmower in comparison.
Hope you check back in from time to time. Are you hanging out in a F car forums? In the back of my head, I like the idea of buying a classic and maybe working on it.

Thanks for asking! Baby Alex is doing fine. I can't believe he's 13 months old already! I have my C230 Coupe still - actually have no plans to part with the car since I like it so much. (I've gotten it dialed in where I want it to be with suspension, tires, etc.) I still pop in on this forum, but I am over in the ferrarichat forums as well.
Wow - '89 Mondial? That puts my F-car to shame. That's got the longitudinally mounted 3.4 liter V-8 from the 348. I've got the '83 Mondial QV - but it's easier to work on. It's actually really smooth and fun to drive - and the Mondials are really underrated and thereby undervalued. I recommend getting a good, clean example. They make good drivers that aren't likely to depreciate much more (if any.) Parts and service are spendy, but if you like to turn a wrench (and I know you do!), it's very rewarding. The 1983-1986 QV models are very self-serviceable. The Mondial T models (like your friends') requires engine-out service.
I do miss my Fiat X1/9. What a little slot car it was! Probably the thing I remembered most about that car was the fact that I was sitting so low that I stared into people's license plates when at a stop sign!
