Anybody has an after market alarm in a C280?
Is it possible at all to install an alarm in my 2007 C280 4Matic Avantgarde???
I'm in Vancouver BC, I bought a 2007 C280 4Matic Avantgarde two months ago as both me and my wife's big 5-0 present.

My wife came out of work one day this week to find the window all smashed in, the glovebox broken and the door frame a bit bent

I'm looking around to install an after market alarm in it. When we bought, it at the dealer, they did not offer this as an option, I asked.

Now my question is this: Is it possible at all?

One outfit told me that the after market alarms interfere with the onboard MB computer when the alarm is connected to the existing pins (door, trunk, etc) and it would mess up the computer (not to mention the warranty) and that is why they wouldn't do it.

Other outfits said it would be OK. I'm confused.

If the trouble is that both systems, alarm and onboard computer, tap into the same pins, could the alarm wires be somehow opto-isolated so there is no interference?

Does anybody have a C280 with an after market alarm? What are your experiences?

Thank you for your input.

i'm not so sure aftermarket alarms help. If someone wants to break into your car and take something, they're going to do it, alarm or not

the car already came with alarm and it is pretty loud, so not sure how aftermarket one's going to help unless you are looking for one that has those vibrating remote that let you know if the alarm is on.

but like eric said...if someone wants to break into your car alarm's not gonna help. it's human nature to ignore or get annoyed and turn away when someone's alarm is on.

No, no, the car does NOT have an alarm. It was NOT an option when I bought it. Otherwise I would not be looking to put one in. I just want to prevent somebody from taking their sweet time dismantling my car - a loud alarm at least, could minimize the time they spend wrecking my car.

So has anybody installed an after market alarm in a C280???

this is true but not a good argument for not installing one

There is no panic button. There is no alarm, trust me

That is why I am looking into an after market unit.

How come you don't believe me?

All US models come with the Panic function, so the cars already have an alarm of sorts for the car. Since your car is in Canada, I don't know if the regulations are different and that's why you don't have the built in standard alarm system (which is basically an anti-theft system, so the car can't be stolen).

On the w203, there is an OEM part that can be purchased called IMS (Interior Motion Sensor). That functions as the motion sensor on a car alarm would. Thing is, since your car (unlike majority of others) didn't come with the panic function on the key fob, don't even know what to tell you.

You might want to try contacting Steve (MBenzNL) to see what your "possibilities" are for having IMS in your car.
