Sirius Satellite Radio is an MB factory only option

I guess I need to find another dealer?

Mr. *****,

Unfortunately, Sirius Satellite Radio is an MB factory only option. This can not be installed at a dealership level.

Mr. xxxxxx,

I'm sure there are people out there that have figured out ways to "buck the system". However, I'm not sure that it will be done the proper way. This, as you may know, can compromise your vehicle's electrical system and or its warranty, which is more headache than it's worth. I can tell you from years of experience that Mercedes-Benz does not offer certain accessories for good reason. They prefer to test and test again to assure proper functionality. Eventually MB might will come out with a retrofit kit for an '07 C-Class, depending on demand, but at this point there is nothing in black and white for a dealer to offer to it's customers. The bloggers on MBWORLD.ORG may be speaking of other models. As of now the only 2007 models that are retrofitable per Mercedes-Benz USA are: CLK, CLS and SLK

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

All the Factory workshop manuals for previous years indicate that retrofitting Sirius is a dealer task. It can be done by anyone as long as they get the instructions that are compatible with their vehicle and are very careful. One may still have to visit the dealer to finish the job with Star Diagnose. Dealers will charge you for the multiple hours it will take to get it installed and the parts I have seen a couple of threads where people have done it themselves. I have partially installed it on my 2004 C230, but I am going slow and will be doing the fiber ring next when I have a some time.

It is very possible, MBUSA even sent a mailing after I bought my car talking about Sirius installation as an accessory.

It is very expensive though, probably about $1000 with parts/labor. So not worth it.

A unit from Sirius with the L bracket from pro clip will set you back $60 or so. Just suck it up and go that route.

I would gladly pay $1,000 parts/labor. The problem is the dealer says it just isn't possible at all on a 2007 C class.. I guess I need to find another dealer, or someone who had their 07 C class done at the dealer, so my "I dont care" service advisor can call someone who knows what they are doing.

Unfortunately, with MY2007, this is no longer a dealer-installed option. I just went to Owner's Online and went to Equip My MB/Sirius Satellite Radio. Here is what it reads:

Dealership installation of SIRIUS Satellite Radio is available for the following vehicles:

* S-Class, Model Year 2004-2006
* E-Class Sedans, Model Year 2004-2006
* E-Class Wagons, Model Year 2004-2005
* CL-Class, Model Year 2004-2007
* ML-Class, Model Year 2004-2006
* R-Class, Model Year 2006
* G-Class, Model Year 2004-2006
* SL-Class, Model Year 2004-2005
* SLK-Class, Model Year 2005-2007
* CLK-Class Coupe, Model Year 2004-2007
* CLK-Class Convertible, Model Year 2004-2007
* C-Class Sedan, Model Year 2004-2006
* C-Class Wagon, Model Year 2004-2005
* C-Class Coupe, Model Year 2005
* CLS-Class, Model Year 2005-2006

SIRIUS Satellite Radio is available as a factory option on most Model Year 2006 and newer vehicles. See your Preferred Mercedes-Benz Dealer for details.

Thanks for the reply! I hope you are wrong though. I have been emailing all the MB dealers around Florida and I found one who will provide the parts for just under $800. I have replied asking how much for me to drop the car off, plug and play....I am waiting for a reply!!

I really wonder what the big deal is... The COMAND system is the same as the E class? Maybe I am wrong but in my business, I can make almost ANYTHING happen if my customer has enough money....

I hope it works out.

Thanks again

Good luck, amigo. I had to show them it was a dealer-installed option for 2005 and am glad I was able to get it in my Benz. Hopefully you find a dealer willing to install it for you -- it really should just be plug and play unless there is some sort of wriring preparation that only comes with the Entertainment Package. Keep us posted. The only complaint I have with the OEM Sirius radio is the text doesn't scroll, so you get the name of the song and then ... if it doesn't fit the screen.

The COMAND system is a whole other problem...most dealers will not retrofit that for you and its cost is out of control, maybe $4k+ just for the headunit itself from the dealer. The unit is different than the E-class and even the CLK, they all fit differently.

COMAND is definately retrofittable at the dealer for 2005-2007 MY. I know this for sure because every service advisor, parts staff, and even the supposed "technical experts" at MBUSA said it was not. I finally found one service advisor who took the time to look into it and found that it was definately possible, it even says so in a brochure put out by MBUSA called "Entertainment and Communication Accessories."

Looks like "Duval motorscars" a MB dealer in Gainesville, FL is going to be the winner. Top notch staff seems to answer emails thoroughly and quickly. They gave me a very reasonable quote for plug and play I just have to drop the car off for a few hours.

WOO HOO

Thanks everyone

Best Regards/Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

If anyone cares, this is the part list for a 2007 C-350 with factory COMAND NAV to add SIRIUS Satellite radio.........

Finally got a labor price for you. About $400.00.
Part #'s you need;
67830073-install kit
67830060-receiver
67830116-cable
67830112-cable
67830093-cable
67830084-antenna
Unfortunately antenna does not come painted to match your blue. Maybe you have someone in Sarasota to do that for you.

Perhaps you can have the mirror checked when you're here.
Saturday is fine. We're open till 5:30.

That labor seems a bit high. Once I convinced a few dealers that it was possible and asked them to look into it, they quoted about 1.5 hrs labor. So probably around $175ish for labor.

Thanks for writing..... $175 or $400, who cares I finally found a dealer who will actually do the work. Unfortunately it's a 2 hour drive but it's still worth it.

Thanks again

Well unfortunately for anyone who cares about following this thread, after a 2 hour drive and paying over $800 for the parts, the dealer had my car for 5 hours before calling me to say

"Sorry sir, your car isn't prewired for SAT so we cannot do the work"

It was the typical service advisor answer, i was obviously not going to accept that and spoke with the technician personally.

From the very beginning I told them the 07 C class didn't have the wire loom run from the deck to the rear trunk.. I told them to order the part, as it would be required.

Well they didn't, so I ended up driving 2 hours back home, with no integrated satelite radio.

Also to make things worse, they didn't even paint the GEN2 antenna so it was going to have to be installed "primer grey" on my CAPRI blue 2007 C-350. I know what your thinking "This from a MB dealer" ... i guess so

Anyway, they are going to look into buying the harness that MB doesn't install anymore in the C class to make it an easy install, they are going to give me another estimate (Likely much higher then the original $1200 quote) and then I will decide i want to drive 2 hours for another shot ...

I will keep updating as I know more.

Oh one more thing......

I'm sure the service advisor was full of B S BUT I was told there is NOW an aftermarket Sirius unit that allows you to use the integrated feature of the COMAND NAV and have the channel display in the speedo cluster and use the steering wheel buttons ...... They were supposed to get me more info on Monday, they said the cost was around $1,100.

I did read something about XM having some junk that was MSRP around $100 but i would rather spend $1500 and get MB parts integrated with a warranty.

Any info? please feel free to share.

As I suspected, the prewiring was the reason it wasn't available as a dealer-installed option. It should have been more than obvious to the dealership service advisor. I hope it works out for you and isn't too expensive. Bon chance.

Please let us know what you find out. I have a 07 ML63 with the Nav unit. Got the Sat button but that is about it
What they are telling us up here in Canada is that the Sat receiver is different from the one in the US. I know this is BS as I ordered a SIRIUS receiver for my Jeep SRT-8 where they gave me the same BS story. It worked just fine.
I have not been able locate any parts at all for my ML. Any suggestions?

I have given up on the dealer and plan to have STEVE sunil@mwhouston.com do the SIRIUS and some other options for me. Hopefully he will make it to Florida, otherwise I will drive from FL to Houston to get the work done.
