To C55 or Not?
Driving to work yesterday I saw my dealership had an AMG W203 sitting up on the display rack right out front. Today I stopped by to check it out. It's a black 2006 C55 with only 7,200 miles on it. It is pristine. One owner bought originally late 2007 so the factory warranty is good through late 2011. I drove it; it was incredible. I took it on a back road, pulled aside, turned off the ESP and did almost a 180 without trying. It was so silky smooth. In S and auto mode I went around a 740IL without breaking a sweat. In Manual mode it was incredible. Torquey and grumbly, perfect. It appears perfectly stock too. It has basically no options though: heated seats, Xenon lights, a sunroof, spoiler-- that's about all it has. I spent a couple of hours haggling. Price was $47K (that's the exact Kelly Blue Book retail value) and I got it down to $41K. They offered me $28K for my C350 (that's about $500 over the top trade in value for it in KBB) which is pretty good considering I got it 8 months and 10K miles ago for $32K. So OTD I would give them my car and $14K for a 2006 C55 with 7K miles. What to do?!?
PS: I has good condition Pirelli tires all the way around, P Zero Rosso's. Were they stock? I don't think so but don't know for sure. With only 7K miles why have new tires? It has a clean Car Fax but that never means much. It looks new. I went over and under it (it was on the rack) looking for replacements parts or over-spray. Nada.
The beast just looked so sweet ...

The real trouble will start when I broach the subject with the wife. She's going to go ballistic!

I am normally the first person to say "Don't ever trade your car to the dealer, sell it yourself then buy what you want"
BUT that seems like a pretty good deal. If the C55 had COMAND I would say JUMP on it.
My suggestion would be to go in with a 1 shot deal "I'll give you 12k and my car for the C55 OTD" and stand your ground, its a 1 shot deal, yes or no. That's what I usually do. Keep your poker face up, pretend it's the wrong color, or wrong options, find a few things you really don't like about it. Tell them it's a deal @ 14k and my car OTD if they install COMAND =) i doubt they would but you see what I mean.
My 07 C350 came with Continentials? Did someone drive over some "Stop sticks" and they cheaped out on the replacements?
The C55's are definitely monsters.
Good luck!!!!

So, no more magazine racing for you? What happened to all the weight loss strategy you were trying to go with?
It's a crazy good deal. I was almost in a 2004 C32 w/ 10,000 miles 2 years ago, but couldn't agree on a price w/ the dealership. They were asking around the same price back then as that deal you got them at right now (out the door 41K).
They kept trying to real me in saying that it's a great upgrade from my 230KSS. I turned around and told them, "yeah, it's a great deal if you give me the deal I'm asking for. Find me a Midnight Blue C32 and maybe I'll change my mind." That was it.
Main thing is, if you can do it, do it.

Ok guys, pigs have flown and h*ll has frozen over. I brought it up with the old lady (she thought I was going to tell her I had caner or something) and she said Ok. Unbelievable. So I called the sales guy and told him if he could talk to his sales manager and sweeten the deal one time then I'd sign the paperwork tomorrow morning. My plan is to plop down $12K and the title (that's $40K OTD for the car and $28K for mine, that's really $38,500 for the car plus $1,500 for tax/tags/delivery) and say I'm ready if you're ready. I am allowing myself to get psyched now. I have to go pull out all my magazines ...

Excellent! I don't have an " old lady " so when I saw the deal on my C350, I jumped on it. I always negotiate O T D prices. I never ever accept prices for the car alone. Everytime the stealership will add in some $500 delivery or "Dealer prep" scam .. Everytime they will get you.
Good luck I hope it works out. Remember to stand your grand. You said $12k and your car, I am willing to bet the next call will be from the salesweasel saying "Ok i can do 13k and your car" or even 13,500...
Good luck!

It's gonna be a long night for sure. I went through it and cleaned everything out and deleted all my NAV saved locations (like Home, Office). I checked K&N and the C350 and C55 air filters are the same part number so I yanked them and put the stockers back. I also yanked the Odyssey battery and put the spare back in. So it's clean and ready. I'll be there when they turn the lights on I think.
