A check from K&N!! Thanks!!!
I was reading a thread on K and N filters and somebody posted the warranty link that showed that they will pay for any repair issues due to K and N filters.
I put K and N's on my 2003 C240 in June 05 when I got the car and it started to idle poorly. The dealer charged me $268 to clean the MAF and replace the filters with original since the K and N's voided the warranty. The service rep said K and N's screw up the MAF. I paid for it and started bad mouthing K and N.
I read the warranty info that was posted and called K and N to see if they would do anything. Shanon was really nice and concerned about my problem and told me to send in all the receipts etc. so I did it a few weeks ago. I just called her and she said they will pay half of it since I didn't have the MAF to study and it was so long ago. Dang!! I wasn't expecting squat so I'm happy!! I expect a check for $134...thanks guys!!!!!
Not sure if I'll put my K and N's back in the car though. She said they will stand by the product and pay in full if another problem occurs. Humm...it's not worth the chance. Anyone want some free K and Ns??

Dave;
pardon me, but this is a bit suspect. You have three posts? And this is what you are sharing?
Been running a K&N for well over 30k miles, NO problems.

I remember Buellwinkle and others discussing... could be wrong

In any case, this post looks like bull to me.
Post a pic of the check next to a moon pie, then I believe.

Do you think I'm BSing about the story? Why?? There is a lot of info on this site about K and N filters about problems with them...I'm not the only one that had this problem. I've had K and N's on my other cars in the past with no problems so I got them for my '03 C240 that I bought used. About a few weeks after the install, my idle became rough so I took it to the dealer. They blamed it on the K and Ns.
I'm sure K and Ns work fine in your car and they say it should, but it caused a problem in my car (so the dealer says). OK...I'll scan in the check with a copy of my repair bill from Symthe European if I ever get it.

p.s. I bet you that the service rep will see my car and right away accuse me of modding my engine
(which I haven't)

Dave;
I explained why above. Your store has way more credibility now, given that you have come back to add further comment. If anything, the component of more air, "could" have added a suction to the cranckcase return tube. As air enters the intake tract, the vent from the valve cover is pushing positive pressure into that intake tract. This air comes with oil droplets. The droplets are to be drained back to the oil pan via a breather tube mounted at the back of the black resonator mounted abouve your S/C plenum.
My theory is that the enhanced breathing can actually create a suction of oil from the oil pan up to the intake tract.
I can't possibly see a way that the K&N cleaning oil can contaminate a MAF, unless someone grossly overoiled the filter.

I think I'll go talk to Smythe and see if I can fight the charge I got from them too. It did happen in 2005 so I doubt if I can fight it. I should have fought the charge back then but since I did change the filters out, I figured it was my fault and a lesson learned.
Thanks!!

Ok stand the filters together in /\ shape and balance the check on top with a printout of this thread in 12pt Arial font on legal sized paper underneath the filters. if you could also take a video of yourself depositing the check and have the bank teller hold it up, then post that on youtube. Then when you get your statement please scan it and post that deposit circled, you can blackout all other personal info other than your zipcode and the statement date!
Should cover it....
(Btw from his other posts looks like he's legit, i remember him from another thread, i'm still waiting for proof of the refund though!)
