2002 C230 Coupe(M111)
Been driving my Jeep the last month or so because of this being winter ( although the daily weather is more like wet muddy spring), I am pleasantly surprised I'm getting 20.1mpg on my work commute. That's better than the last C240 loaner I had.

The 800 miles/tank club here on long trips.

Angry Gas Mileage C240

Just picked up 01' C240 with a full tank of gas this morning. Drove about 66 miles, and its already at 3/4. Y o Y. I bought the car for the sole purpose of better mileage then my E. On board computer tells me i'm getting about 24.8, well i was doing b/w 80-90 the whole time, but it shouldn't gulp the gas like that.
How are you guys doing with that?

I've got a 01 c240, and on highways, I can get at most 33mpg. This is with conservative driving (70-75mph) and little traffic. In city, my mpg can vary a lot (15mpg-22mpg) depending on how much traffic and how many lights I get.

PHP Code:
This is with conservative driving (70-75mph
So you're saying now i really have to drive like i own a Merc to get the right gas mileage. All prim n proper. That ain't gonna happen, i might have to think of other ways of getting better mileage out of this lil dinky.

even without conservative driving, i still get way better than 25 mpg. I can get around 29 mpg with aggressive driving on the highway...33 was just my max.

btw, i have a 6-speed manual if that changes anything.

How many miles per tank you get? I'm only onto 66 miles, so maybe i'm just jumping the gun here. But loosing 1/4 of tank, just doesnt' sit right with me.

Well i do have a reason to complain, this is what i was getting with my E500, which mind you as we all know is an 8cyl. C being a lil chu chu 6cyl, i should be getting around 28-30. Thas all i'm saying.

E550 4MATIC
I have a 2005 C240 4Matic and it gets horrible mileage around town. I'm lucky if I get 18mpg tops. On the highway for long trips its good though and I get about 26/27. The ironic thing is that the new C280 engine is more fuel efficient even though its more powerful. Its becuase its a newer generation engine with better technology.

Well i drove a bit more sanely today, 79mph on cruise round trip of 90 miles or so. The highest i got was 25.2. Which is fine i guess. Maybe i just had bigger expectations coming from an E. I'll have a better idea in a day or so of how i'm doing, as i'm still on the first tank of gas.

Help diagnose: bad gas mileage

I average 10L/100kms usually in my car, and lately when it starts its goes up to 22L/100kms then after driving 20mins to work its back down to 11L/100kms

I thought it could be the MAF, so replaced it, yet no improvement.

I'll pull the codes soon, yet the only codes of interest pulled last time were P0172 (rich) and misfires on all cylinders (P0301-304).
