hey, do you guys have your amp hooked up to your stock cd player?? i was looking to install a system i have into the car.. the thing is i got the 2005 model and it doesnt look like its easy to get a aftermarket deck in there, does our stock decks have the amp RCA wires behind it? or would you have to tap the speaker wires to get the rca?

BUT! with the stock HU on a hot long driving day the whole system likes to shut up until it cools down. dont remember why but ive read people talking about it here. so now i dont use the stock HU. So change your HU first, it makes a really big diff even if you use your stock speakers its louder and clearer. hope this helps!
unfortunately I don't have 1000 to drop on a new h/u...the stock speakers are good I've been told, just need a real power source hence why i was considering a 6 channel amp...I don't want component in the front when I have separate tweeter housings...I prefer more tight bass from the midrange speakers so I will not change that out...but getting 2-way in the rear doors might not be a bad idea i suppose ( you were talking about the rear doors correct, or 2-way for the rear deck?)

rear doors, yeap. but you can also do that to the front. then just kill the tweeter by the mirror. if you get a 2-way and also have a tweeter at the same time the sound might be too iritating.. if you know what i mean..

ok so is there a hole in the firewall where you can run the power wire threw? or will there have to be drillin involved, if there is a stock hole in the firewall, where is it located?

usually people run the remote wire to the 12v power wire thats connected to the radio harness so it turns once the hu is on. if you dont want to do that you can run it to any 12v source that turns on the the ignition is on, usually theres a couple of wires you can tap into by the fuse box, just use a voltage reader and find one that turns on when you turn your key to the I or II position.

NEW sub/amp/speaker setup to go with my AVIC-D3

After much online research and talking to some audiophiles... I finally decided on a setup to go with my AVIC-D3 and got it installed this morning:

Alpine PDX-5

http://signature.crutchfield.com/App...ssi=0&skipvs=T

Alpine SPX-13PRO

http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_5...pine+pro&ssi=0

Alpine SPR-13C

http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_5...lpine+13&ssi=0

JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3

http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_1...v3.html?tp=112

I called the installer and its all done and all he could say was "it freakin rocks"... I can't wait to get outta work and take it for a cruise.

what did the amp and speakers run you minus the sub and box? I alrady have an amp and 2 10" in my trunk and my speakers are really starting to go, so I'm thinking around christmas to get something like this, and exactly what i wanted to do with the 2-way in the rear and midrange in the fronts...I dont want to lose my tight base that the mids provide over the 2-way in the front...

Here's where I actually purchased the speakers from: (I just used Crutchfield for fitting info and reviews)
-incredibly cheaper... i saved around 40% off everything on average

Alpine PDX-5 ($469.00 shipped)
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...ine_PDX-5.aspx
-this amp is very small, and if possible i would like it hidden in the trunk under the bed near spare tire OR in sidewall storage.

Alpine SPR-13C ($78.00 shipped)
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...e_SPR-13C.aspx

Alpine SPX-13PRO ($295.00 shipped)

Nice - You should enjoy that. I'm delighted you went for a JL Audio sub. Vastly superior to other booming monotone crap. Most car audio subs do more to screw up the sound than improve it - Enjoy

JL Audio just got accolades in the October "Absolute Sound" magazine now that they have made the move into the high end domestic audio arena.

If your looking for real low prices on audio stuff..

Ive always shopped at http://www.sonicelectronix.com/

If you also like to write reviews.. This place will give you a sonic buck every time you write one to put towards your next purchase.

I originally was purchasing from Sonic Electronix because their prices are slightly cheaper, but shipping wasn't included. The place I got it from had shipping included also had all the items in stock...

in the end, the total for everything came out to be the same +/- $10 or so...

thanks... i had many hesitations in the past and value your advice. i'm very glad i didn't go with the infinity basslink or any other powered sub... everyone i've talked to and everywhere i've read favors subs powered by separate amps.
