hmmm. the only thing i can say (may or may not be 100% correct) i think that it should be okay as long as the big "chip" does not have any really sharp edges. if it does, it may chew into your belt and damage it. did you contact the person you bought it from???

im no expert either, but how can a rubber belt smooth a rough piece of alloy? i think the sharp edges will cut the belt. i would've informed myself better before installing it. it may be dangerous. check it out asap.

If its dent, with a small burr, you should be fine. It is aluminum after all...the same metal that you can deform with your fingernail. Try not to look at in a menacing way, you may put it out of round...just kidding.

If youve got burrs, a little emery cloth(used sparingly) should knock them down.

thats true. you can even fine sand/file the sharp edges so they are more round, thus being too dull to score the belt. but then again, you will have to remove them. regardless, see what asp has to say and show them you're really scared (pretend) so that they will take it seriously.

the aluminum is very soft indeed. the burr and small dent can be smoothed out easily with a piece of 400 grid sandpaper or a fine file. only gentle force is necessary.

I doubt Kleemann would send out pulley with those defects. It shows very bad QC as they are made individually by ASP. It makes me wonder what other things might be slipping by, like being out of round or some other important but hard to see problem. Well, you get what you pay for!

Exactly! I have no experience whatsoever with these products, but it shows an obvious quality control problem with either the manufacturing or shipping process. They should inspect, repair or replace the product without question.

Aluminum is a VERY soft metal. Over time, the nick will become smooth. Similar in process to rocks becoming polished in a river.

You are absolutly right! I have two pulleys with similar defects (small chips on the belt surface) that I would never ship to a customer. It's not dangerous, but most people want a pristine, NEW pulley. I also check runout on all of our pulleys prior to shipping. No detail is overlooked. When you pay $899.00 for our Over-Boost kit, you are going to get exactly what you expect- a clean, defect free product that has been checked not only by our supplier, but also myself before it's even sold!

Yeah, and carbon turns into diamond over 1 million years. I don't think comparing the action of a rubber belt over a sharp aluminum bur is the same as the action of water running over a rock for a hundred years. The bur will most likely cause damage to the belt long before any smoothing action occurs.

From what I understand, Kleemann is shipping pulleys that cause belt rubbing on the waterpump pulley, have they fix that yet?

No offense intended Buell, but show me a customer that has our kit installed and has had a belt failure. There isn't one.

We would never sell anything that we couldn't stand behind 100%. I really don't see any reason for concern regarding the outside corner of the belt occasionaly rubbing on the waterpump pulley. 1 maybe 2 mm. of belt wear is no reason for concern. Hell, your belt will stretch more than that over it's life span. once that 1 or 2 mm. are worn away, it won't rub anymore anyway.

Call it a self-adapting drive belt

From what I understand, not all belts have the rubbing problem. This has nothing to do with the quality of the manufacturing of the part. These chips can be caused by several things, like substandard metal, dull CNC bits, and mishandling to name a few. All these things show a lack of concern about the product.

CoryU,
First you state:
...No detail is overlooked...you are going to get exactly what you expect- a clean, defect free product...
Then:
...I really don't see any reason for concern regarding the outside corner of the belt occasionaly rubbing on the waterpump pulley...once that 1 or 2 mm. are worn away, it won't rub anymore anyway...
While I really like the various supercharger offering form Kleemann, to me, a clean, defect free product would NOT cause rubbing EVER! You could have made the pulley 2mm smaller

Hurry up with the supercharger upgrade and nobody will want the pulley

One more thing, I'll take the other defective pulley
