Who was it that used pinstripe tape to cover the chrome strips on the door and bumper mouldings? Seems like the car was red, but I can't remember. I did a search- but came up short. I am thinking of doing this in matte/flat black on my car (white).

It's very easy. I ordered a roll of 5/8" 3M striping to allow for total coverage and trimmed it to fit.

I also covered the little bit of chrome under the side windows.

That's it. I was a little impatient at the end and boogered up small piece, but take your time and it's easy.

Thanks C24owner for the credit.

Thanks Phil, I don't want to date myself as an old man, but I actually got the idea from my first car, '82 VW GTI. Plus, if you're on a budget, you have to be creative with the mods. This was one of my favorites for under $30.

Hey Benzboi3, when are you going to update your sig? Your car looks so much better with the black out stripe. I can't wait to get some wheels to complete the look.

benzboi- that's the one i was thinking of, didn't know he was the last of the three to do it though.

my wheels are matte black with a polished lip. the chrome trim as is would look good because it would match the lips. then again, i don't really like chrome trim- so i could do it up to match the paint on the wheels.

Hey guys, just wondering: Where did you get the striping you used? Did you just use black? Also, do you know if they have any other colors available? I searched the forum but couldn't any info. Thanks for the help!

it's all over ebay or your local sign shop. ebay is cheaper, but in some cases you don't know if you are getting a good brand or not.

Check with your local paint & body supply store too. They may not have what you want in stock, but they can order virtually any color in any width. Essentially it's thick pin stripping from 3M. It cost me about $33 for 100 feet of 5/8" tape. Needless to say, there is plenty left over to use for other treatments.

his roof is vinyl. do a search- you can see several pictures of his as well as a few other members that did it. my 3M 180C material should be here in the next couple days. matte for the roof, chrome trime, and all gloss back trim that's around the windows and the strip on each side of the roof.

bumpnzx3's right, it's vinyl. I'll admit that paint looks better if you really want a glossy finish to match the paint on the car, but I was after something less permanent, just like the tape covering the chrome trim. After the blacked out trend runs it's course, I'll just peel everything off and give it a good waxing.

Here are a couple pics of the top, sorry don't have any real close up.

The USA Buzzer is the setting so the car chirps once when locking and three times when unlocking. When I bought my car it simply flashed the lights when locking/unlocking. The first '06 service loaner I was in chirped when locking/unlocking, so I asked them to change the setting on mine.

I was thinking about doing this too, after seeing some of these pics I'm going to do it for sure

I also made my roof black using some sort of vinyl (3M I think). I got it at StickerCity in the Valley if any of you L.A. area guys want to know

and....bumpnzx3 what kind of grill do you have? Looks pretty damn nice on your white car

I am DEFINITELY gonna do the roof vinyl now! Beav, your roof looks nice! I'm actually waiting for my wheels to come back from getting painted. (Watch for thread soon!) I'm going with a Pewter and matte Black theme. I'm trying to figure out how much matte black vinzl i need to order to do the roof, mouldings, and door trim. Any help? Any brand recommendations?

for the roof you should get like a big sheet. What I got was like maybe 7 or 8 ft. long (the width was standard) I used like maybe 6ft. for the roof then the other part I used to black out the bottom part of my bumper (the part on the Sport bumper where people attach a diffuser)

as for the other stuff I am thinking about getting like a roll of pinstripe tape (We used the red tape to make a lip on my friend's STI). I know you can get that, we got it from Pep Boys for like $10 maybe. They have different widths and lengths, but it doesnt really need to be that long

and as for brands.....when it comes to stickers/vinyls I think 3M is the best

the grille that's in my avatar is the grille that 'jackou' or something like that on ebay, sells. it has been destroyed due to me hitting a deer a few months back. i now have a 3 fin CF grille.

both 3M and Avery are good films to use- or so i read when researching my vinyl choices.
