HOw long are brake pads and rotors suppose to last for a c230 ss?

I ask this question because I leased an 05 230 3 years ago and last February i got new pads and rotors at about 30k miles....well i just took my car in today to get some repairs at mercedes and they said I need new pads and rotors AGAIN and i am only at 39k... Can this be possible? I do not drive hard at all. Any help is appreciated.

Does your instrument display say you need new brakes? If not, don't worry about it.

I've seen dealerships tell people this all the time. Just wait until you have the warning message to change your brakes. Even after the warning you have a bit of pad left to drive quite a while on.

Just wait until the brake warning appears on your dash.

Asbolutely, and or the next time the wheels are off the car for any reason,
ask to see them.

And, get ceramics. They last.
I have Akebono's.
Already at 40K miles and still look new.
Stock pads, lasted 20k-25k.

do it when you think is time... wait till lights goes on you have to spend couple more buck for sensor replacement too

you can order pad and rotor on tirerack.com for 200bux less maaaybe

and then have any local shop do the work for you for 10bux

True dat. Even after the sensor goes, you still have like 3-4mm? Easily good for another 10000km.

Anyone know if there are rivets that stick out from the back plate of the pads?

For the '05 c230 there are no rivets.

I must have gotten lucky with my car I got about 51K out of the pads and rotors before I replaced them. DIY price for OE parts was $300.

exactly. Why do we have brake wear sensors if we aren't supposed to use them? I'd rather trip them and replace them than plop down $700 for new brakes early. The sensors are only $5 and it's probably not a bad idea to get a new one once in a while.

I agree with the others in waiting until you see the display telling you to get brakes.

But as for life, well, both my pads and rotors (for the front) needed changed around 20k....and the rotors can't be turned because MB uses the minimum thickness. I got estimates at two MB dealers (one was $250 less than the other for the same work) and two big named brake shops. They all told me the same thing. It ended up costing me $650 (for the fronts) at one of the MB dealers.

Next time, I'm doing it myself.

$700, what dealer is that? We all need to know who is honest, who is ripping people off. Also, my 2004.5 has 39K miles, original pads, rotors, sensors, wheels but new tires. My dealer wanted to do pads on my kid's SLK and they were like new, about 1/2" thick. The tech wrote pads are 20% used, the dealership service dept is not doing good so they told me I had 20% left. I should have gotten that in writting and reported them to the BAR. They fired about 8 people in their service dept recently, thieves deserved it.

I feel for you folks who fear to DIY.
And wish you were giving me all that money instead of the stealer.
He who fears the wrench pays with the dollar.
