M271 2003-2005 C230 guys go to the dealer now free work/recall
#176
Hi everyone ... I'm a newbie from NJ. I just got a 2005 C230 K Coupe with only 38k miles. It has a rough engine sound at idle, although it sounds okay when in highways.
The factory warranty has expired. Consumersreport.org recommended against the 2005 C230. I have read about the engine design problem. Should I expect something serious? Will I be able to ask the dealer to do the recall for free or is there a time limit to do that? Sorry, if I have repeated some questions. Thanks a bunch guys.

2005 Mercedes Benz C230K SS
So I called Mercedes Benz of South Bay because I need to have my drivers side window worked on... it wont go up all the way at the flick of the switch...
and the Service Advisors tells me there's a campaign going on for my 2005 C230 Kompressor. I believe he said something about a "bushing in the transmission" needs to be replaced???
Regardless, I'll know more about it when I take it in on Saturday to have it worked on.
Has anyone else heard about this???
Feel free to chime in.

I dropped my car off at EuroMotorCars of Devon (previously MB of Devon) to get my winter tires mounted and my SA said there was another recall for my car.
This time:
Campaign # 2009100001
Cam Solenoid recall
271-051-01-77 Magnet
271-051-00-32 Closing Cover
271-050-27-33 electrical w(ire?)
It looks like they replaced the front cam covers and added that extra bit of wire to prevent oil from running down.

Covers: Models 170/203, Model Years 2001 - 2004 / 2002 - 2004
Replace the Camshaft Adjustment Solenoid(s) and Install Adapter Harness (es)
obviously its VIN specific, but most likely if you have a M271 engine, its included in part of this..

I just bought an 03 c230k with 40,000 miles that has had this recall work done on it and was wondering if those who have had the recall work done have had any issues since? I am debating on buying an extended warranty, but won't if the recall solves the problem. Thanks for any help you can offer!

I just got my Camshaft Adjustment Solenoids and Install Adapter Harnesses replaced over the weekend, I had purchased the adapter harnesses last summer, and I was able to get them reimburse me for them! Just needed the receipt and the old harnesses! My old solenoids were not leaking and this with 75K on the car now.
Funny thing and a warning; even in my garage the mice were able to construct a "home" in my air filter tube and housing. They were able to get into some of the car sound padding I have in the garage, and stuffed the air intake almost solid. I did notice a little drop in MPG, but holy cow I am glad the dealer looked. I will be fashioning a screen to the intake "horn"

I have a 2005 C230K (w203) that I just purchased and it is out of warranty. If there is any recalls on it will they still preform them?
Thanks in advance (sorry if its a noob question)

I just purchased a 2002 C230 Kompressor Coupe for my daughter from a non-MB branded import car dealer. The check engine light came on after two days of driving and when I called one of the MB Dealers the Serive Advisor indicated that the Cam Solenoid oil leak into the wiring harness had been identified as a problem prior by the MB dealer and that the cost to repair would be $3,600 Cdn. A second opinion sought by the selling dealer indicated a couple of minor issues and did not result in the same conclusion. The check engine codes were cleared and car returned prior to my purchase of the vehicle. I have expressed my concern to the selling dealer and they have offered to replace the vehicle but I like the car and I am surprised that MB is not fixing this problem. After owning two MB's (E430 & ML) previously that were purchased new and not kept beyond the warranty period due to a miriad of problems and arrogant Service Advisors, I am not surprised that MB does not stand behind its product. I there a less expensive fix in Canada or has MB Canada indicated it is prepared to resolve the issue? I am trying to decide whether to take the offer from the dealer.

Check with your local state/provincial laws on refund/returns on used cars brought from used car dealers.
The "Cam Solenoid recall" being discussed here is more of a preventative maintenance for 271 engines. On yours the damage have already started,... so I'm not sure if MB would cover that. What MB-USA is covering now is parts and labour on the "Cam Solenoid recall". MB-Canada doesn't have the recall yet. Also, when it comes to non-emergency recalls, Mercedes-Benz Canada tends to issue them about a year after Mercedes-Benz USA,... if enough people complains.
In addition, your 2002 C230 shouldn't have the 271 engine with cam solenoid recall issues.

Thanks for the response. They sold the car based on the information from a shop that repairs MB cars. I spoke to the owner of the shop who indicated that could not see the same issue that the MB Canada dealer (Dealer is owned by MB) did and that rather than look into the problem the dealer had indicated the that the wiring harness, ECU, air mass meter and the sensors had to be replaced. For a car that needs this work it runs great which is the inconsistency. The Dealer has also offered a full refund.
If the car should not have this problem in the first place, perhaps I will take it the only non-corporate owned MB Dealer in the area for a diagnosis.
