we see this all the time on a coupe.......the water runs down to the top of the hatch when open and they are tinting, the water cooks the antenna at the top of the hatch.......
get to a dealer right away and get them to get a quote to replace the antenna and go after the tint guys..... the shop in our area came good for the ones the killed.
i think the antenna is like 600 dollars and its a pian in the @$$ to replace because there is very little room between the glass and the hatch to actually get in there and work but it can be done.... i've replace about 5 from bad tint shops.

the tint being non metalic will only help for your radio reception. but since its cooked the antenna im guessing that you door lock's work like crap unless you point you key @ the IR sensor in the door handle and your radio recepion is basicaly gone?
Exactly.... Looks like I have to go in and talk with them about this. Thank you all for the info.

The total cost would have been around 1300-1400 because they claimed they had to also replace the entire rear glass along with the antenna.
I ended up getting a discounted upgrade on my tint after I complained to the tint place.
The problem wasn't metallic tint... it was the fried antenna like they said above.
Although, I think it shouldn't be that hard to install yourself. I was up late last night installing a reverse camera and ended up taking off all the back panels and moldings on the hatch for the first time. It wasn't so bad actually and I happened to pass the antenna while tracing the wire back through the hatch.
Order the part from OEMpartsdirect.com and install it yourself.

and does anyone know the part# for that amp/antenna???
-removed the black "push-pins" & torx screws on the outside edge of the hatch (furthest from the car)
-removed the small plastic panel on the top/inner hatch (closet to the car) to reveal two more torx screws (and removed them)
-then snapped out the center panel at the top of the hatch (closet to the car)
-then the side panels snapped out in the direction towards the center of the rear hatch glass
-then removed the molding furthest away from the car at the bottom of the hatch.
*after the initial pushpins and torx screws are removed, all the panels are able to be snapped out... but as a caveat, work slowly and make sure you use a plastic wedge to go slowly and check frequently that you are pulling out in the correct direction so as not to break any of the plastic tabs holding it in place. or you might break a few like i did last night
but they're fixablegoodluck!

Many thanks, I'll try this.
Now I'll need the part# anyone can help?
Anyone parting out a coupe and still has this in the rear hatch?
horrible reception & the smartkey being suddenly "stupid" all after getting the windows tinted. initially, i thought it was the degree of tint (5%) and type (titanium), but after reading this and applying the logic, that the tint shop fried my antenna makes perfect sense.
i know i'm more than a year late in this, however:
liqued12, did you ever get this resolved?
midnight kompre, do tell of your stealership trickery?
