Yes, your units are confused a bit.. HP converts to kW.

Torque can be converted to Nm, which is the usual metric unit. 207 lb-ft converts to 280.692 Nm.

See this for a nice conversion table.

Ooops, sorry, I was reading several lines at the same time. My mistake, I meant lb-ft to Nm...

Now I understand, thank you very much!!:p

From MBUSA's current website:

Engine and Drivetrain

Engine 1,796-cc intercooled supercharged DOHC 16-valve inline-4 with dual balance shafts. High-pressure die-cast alloy cylinder block, alloy heads.

Net power 189 hp @ 5,800 rpm

Net torque 192 lb-ft @ 3,500 - 4,000 rpm

(The old 2.3 had 200 lb-ft of torque)

Audi S4
Kilowatts (kw) translates into horsepower, and every kilowatt is about 1.36 horsepower (so multiply the kw figure by 1.36 to get the hp)

Newton-meters (nm) are the standard measure of torque, and the each nm equals roughly .74 lb-ft. Neither of these numbers are scientific, but they will get you in the area.

207 LB-FT is the figure in the manual.

Actually, 280 Nm, which is....a tick under 207 lbs.ft

(See above)

The 2.3 manual has the correct figure; M-B 2002 sales literature, etc was unduly pessimistic.

I find it amusing that something as simple as a fixed conversion, agreed upon by scientific authorities around the world, can spark a debate like this.

Perhaps we should rename it to the 'MBDebateWorld Forums'
