100 degrees out + AC = INSANE throttle lag?!

I'm really disappointed with the throttle lag of this car.
I know the engine is considered to be pretty slow, but once the damn thing wakes up and says "ohh hes pressing the gas pedal" it feels like its got good power.

Problem is since it got so hot out and ESPECIALLY with the A/C on I can floor it and the damn thing just sits there slooowly revving up until finally it jumps and goes. No check engine light.

Any ideas on what I can do to try and diagnose this or is it normal? I expect if I take it to the dealer they're going to tell me its normal, in which case, I should have bought a KIA.

Probably just heat soak. I am guessing your in the North East? Wait until the heat wave passes and see if the car still acts up. If it does, then it might be a dirty MAF.

Yep, im in NYC. Yesterday it was the worst, I started it and went to pull a U-turn, had the pedal to the floor during a U-turn!! And the car was basically like "nah not gonna move any faster than this".

well, not necessarily... the throttle lag is there, I drove out to the city today, the cluster read 102F, I had the A/C on full blast and floored it down canal street, there was just a slight throttle lag, wasn't that bad. no offense, maybe its the 240!!!

well i had a similar problem before. i would be slammed on the gas and the car wouldn't move .. until about five whole long seconds passed. then it would slowly accelerate. i would turn car off and then back on and it would be fine.. turned out to be a faulty electronic throttle sensor?
or something to that effect.

BTW,

congrats on the new bimmer advans. that car is sick.

if you get it in white.. ima suggest getting bright silver HRE spoke style rims.. and no tint. I saw a 335 like that, and it was hott..

have you guys done the throttle reset? it works.

also, I've noticed the car's performance according to the amount of gas in the tank.

I've noticed that the car has the best response from full tank to 3/4 tank. then from 3/4 to 3/8 tank is rubbish. then less than that is best response. but...thats IMO.

also, try swapping out to brand new clean airfilters, it helps a bit.

That may be the case. Mine would say 106 degrees, i'd turn on the AC, and you barely feel a difference in throttle response and acceleration. Unless my car is just used to it since its hot here all the time.

I'm in Phoenix and the gauge has been reading 100-105 or so, and when the A/C comes on, same sort of lag for me too.

I'm not too sure I buy the 'its a 240' excuse. Obviously its a slow engine, and obviously it was REALLY stupid of MB to go with a 170 hp engine in a heavy AWD car.

The reason I'm not so sure is because it's not that I don't have power, its the damn lag. Once the car 'realizes' that i want to go it gets up and goes. Not that I'm defending the pig of an engine. It's my one regret with the car.

We have a beater car, a 1993 Saturn with over 100k on it - 85 HP when it was NEW. And that thing has NO throttle lag WITH the a/c on in this weather.

Maybe the sprint booster will work for you?

just try to do a throttle reset and change your air filters first

You can reflash the ecu with a powerchip. You can get maybe another 20 hp or so.

How about get the MAF cleaned (with CRC cleaner) and change the filter? If you can get the sprint booster too....

we are on mars. its freakin hot as hell. I guess I will be wasting $4.43 a gallon driving to work tomorrow (if its burning hott). So I don't have to walk in the blazing heat.

You could be talking about timing retard not throttle lag...

My car used to do that alot before... now that I have 1 step colder spark plugs this is no longer a problem ...
