You can only imagine what it looks like on our 70" HDTV

Contact any of the sponsors or visit tirerack.com

You could always go on the classifieds and shop there for nice wheels at decent prices. Just google for websites. . . Just shop around. In your price range you might want to narrow your choices to either replicas or some nice 1-piece forged wheels.

Thoughts on staggered vs. non-staggered set-up

Hey guys,

New to this forum, have been doing a lot of reading the last few months. I've decided I want to do aftermarket rims and suspension. I have some rim choices in mind, but my budget is very low. This is a daily driver so I'm not spending $3k on rims. I'm looking at around $1300-$1500 for rims/tires.

So, my question is this: If I do a standard rim size all around, say 19x8.5, can I still do a 235/265 tire set-up? Likewise, if I do 18x8, can I still do 225/255?

I definitely prefer a full staggered set-up, but if I don't do staggered rims (but do staggered tires), there are way more options to choose from. I know there are guys on this board running this scenario

I talked to Luke @ Tirerack this morning and he said of course it was possible, but didn't recommend it. The problem is, they have some of the non-staggered rims I really like. I appreciate his honesty in telling me the truth and not trying to sell me the rims...which is one of the reasons I love Tirerack. Bottom line is that this is purely for aesthetics. Let me reiterate...purely aesthetics. I don't care much about handling or acceleration or whatever....at least not for my daily driver. That being said however, i do want the car to be safe.

So, I know the professionals opinion, now I want the users opinions

Any help/advice is appreciated.

Yeah, they aren't sold yet, but you might want to buy them before next weekend because he is shipping them off to get refinshed.

dont know if this helps on the tire question but. im running 19x8 up fron and 19x9.5 out back i have 225/35 and 255/30 tires.

the staggered question i would answer by saying. i think nothing looks better on a european car than a nice fat staggered setup riding just inside the fender. sorry cant help on the specifics

Go to the tire specs as shown on the tirerack website. It'll tell you what tire size requires what width rim; min -> max. Running a staggered tire setup on non-staggered rims will look

+1 staggered is better. Never thought about running a fatter tire on a skinnier rim. . . is that even possible?

I think it will look goofy to have fatter tires in the rear than the front on the same rim size. It's because the rears will bulge more than the front and not look even. If you want the staggered look with equal size rims, then get equal size tires and use spacers in the rear to emulate the stagggered look.

It doesn’t look too bad. A respected member (not me, obviously) runs 8.5 (34ET) with 245/40 and 265/40 front and rear with no interference or ESP/ASR issues.

Since you’re interested solely in appearance, chances are good you’ll find some worthwhile information here. When you’re ready to modify your suspension, catch up with us again and I’ll share more worthless information.
