Replacing the Stock Shift Knob on the C230 Coupe
Has anyone replaced the shift knob on their C230 Coupe yet...?
I just purchased a MOMO Cobra Carbon shift knob to replace the original knob. I have the 6sp. I was wondering if there's a procedure to remove the original knob. If anyone knows how to remove the original knob safely ( I don't want to wreck anything ).. please let me know. Provide Pics if possible.
Thanks in advance...
i am curious to see the shifter that you got though. post a pic of it if you get a chance. thanks.
here's a quote from MBTECH that may help:
Lift up on the shifter indicator. Be careful, the clips are easy to break. Unplug the two connectors and remove the knob by lifting the boot over the shifter knob, and twisting the plastic piece at the bottom of the knob counter-clockwise 1/4 turn. then the knob/boot/indicator assembly comes off. Next, remove the wood surround of the shifter by pulling up at the front. Then, remove the rubber piece at the bottom of the cupholder compartment. Next, take the cupholder itself out by rotating it clockwise, rear-end first. That part is a little tricky too. After all that, the cigarette lighter section unclips and pivots rearward, allowing you easy access to the wires.

If I were forced to bet, I wouldn't think that any off-the-shelf aftermarket knob would work, but good luck to you. I was hoping to get an email from Brabus today with pics of theirs (at almost $300, btw
), but it didn't come. I'll try again later in the week, might even give Renntech a call to see what they have.Final note: they just showed Bernie Mac's wife getting out of an M3 conv. on his show. Even in silver, it's stunning.
here's a pic of the euro version of the shifter from the evo package. notice the darker little hemisphere above the boot? i can feel a similar thing under my shifter's boot. btw, thats the auto xmission shifter.
i guess i did not notice the car because i was checking his wife out...
And yes, she's got a killer bod. :p
Young, yes I think that I remember seeing that "hemisphere" when I pulled the boot up. Couldn't turn it, though I was a little paranoid about breaking it at the time.

the catalog was sent to me by autoclass.net when i got my cdchanger from them. jerry from www.myroadster.net also sent me the images. he told me only $79
i should add this disclaimer: i don't work for any merc accessories company so i don't get anything from some of the links that i provide (although i wouldn't mind
). i've never bought anything from myroadster.net.

Thanks Young. Appreciate your honesty with the disclaimer. I'll check out your links for additional info. If anyone else has info regarding shift knobs, please post.
Thanks
