As a noob.. I have to ask, what's the best way to de-badge without damaging the paint?

Get a blow dryer...a few minutes on each letter/number & then use a flathead screwdriver WRAPPED IN A TOWEL & you'll be shocked how easy they come off! After they're off, just wax a bit. Spray wax worked like a champ for me!

+1 on debadging, and a flat hood emblem would be cheap and clean looking too.

nice car though, congrats.

another option, in case you're worried about slipping with the screw driver is fishing line, some also use floss, but that tends to break sometimes....

either way it all works out in the end....

I've noticed a lot of people on here get the flat hood emblem.
I'm curious as to why it's so popular. Personal taste?
I kinda like the stock ornament :-p

You may also need to use the goodbegone (or what ever it's called) to get the residue off after you remove the badges.

i just think it looks cleaner and someone is way less likely to steal it (the hood ornament, not the car). i also think it looks more modern, those ornaments seem so 80s-90s to me for some reason. its pure personal preference, i dont think they look ugly, i just prefer the flat ones, especially if you have a MB star on your grille - you dont need one on your hood too.

True, i see what your saying. I really like the sport grille with the star in them. I think it's called the CL grille?

I had the EBAY emblem for a while, removed it, lost it and been using my stock ornament for a change. BTW, no residue at all after I removed the emblem and I had the emblem on my hood for years

Get the W204 OEM flat emblem, direct fit

Personally. . .I think it's because it makes the car look more stream-lined and sportier. All the newer Mercedes models (roadsters, CLS, etc.) all come with the flat hood emblems now. Hmn. . .

I like both ways =)

Nice car keithgy. Looks exactly like my car when I first got it, except black interior. After 8 months I got a new head unit + tint and 1.5years later I got wheels and coilovers. Now it looks even better. Good luck on your mods.

T.OC240...
Your car is great!
Few questions...
1. Can you explain what the 5mm H+R spacers do.
2. Can you provide photos of what the Kenwood DNX head unit looks like installed.
3. Can you provide the total inches dropped for both Front and Rear.

Thanks.

No worries,Keith...Everything u axed can be found when u STFF. (Search The Fkng Forum);probably no sweat finding pics of the head unit & drops are personal, but 1.5 inches seems to be the norm...

ArsnlKen,

T.0. has the same year make and model car... I asked the questions to T.0. because I wanted his input... not a smartass remark about "Searching The ****ing Forum"... I'm very aware of the search feature, but thank you for feeling the need to reiterate the search button.

agreed- i've always used fishing line and floss if i couldn't find any fishing line. a little spray detail mist or a cleaner wax takes off any other residue.

I used fishing line this weekend... it worked perfect... though I'm having a heck of a time getting the residue completely off. I tried GOO OFF... worked to a point. I'm thinking of trying a buffing compound then a cleaner wax... I was nervous putting GOO OFF on my car...
Will post pics soon...

Glyn is right keithgy...you won't regret the BIX lights. When I got my car (pre-owned) , that was one of many options I absolutely had to have. So, like Glyn, I too have the BIX factory installed. What a difference they make at night. Going from my car to my wife's non-bix Subaru feels like I'm driving her car with only parking lights on.

What's your actual car color keithgy? Is it 040 Black?

Welcome to the Forum !! You'll find a lot of great people here, and a wealth of information.

Cintoman,
Thanks for the welcome...
The car is black, though i'm uncertain if it's 040. I noticed you stated, that you have the "BIX factory installed" does that mean that you took your car a MB dealer and had them do the work? The reason I ask is because I'm defiantly not a mechanic , so once I purchase them... I'll have to find someone to install them

You can tell what color your car is by looking at the VIN sticker that's mounted on the inside of the driver's door jamb. It's a black and white sticker with a barcode on it denoting the VIN, along with vehicle weight, date of manufacture, etc. Towards the right, above the bar code is a 3 number code. It might be something like 040, C040, C359, C197, etc. This is your vehicle's paint code. Beginning with the 2004 model year cars, the number code was preceded by a "C", denoting that it was clearcoated with the superhard Ceramiclear clearcoat (dramatically reduces scratches, scrapes, pits).

As for my BIX, I meant it was installed when the car was originally built, and hence, part of the vehicle's options when built. My car is very well optioned: heated seats, harmon/kardon logic 7.1 surround with CD changer, sunroof package, the lighting package (bix with headlight washers), rear shade, COMAND Nav, etc. Basically, the only options it doesn't have is the full power driver's seat with steering column memory, Satellite radio, and split folding seats.
