No more audio, anyone else with the same prob. or know how to fix?
Hi,
So today on my way home from work the sound from my stereo stopped working. It's not on mute and the volume is up but just no sound. The radio works, I mean it searches and finds stations (at least it shows the names of them all when found), the lights are on, the CD player takes in the CD, spins it up and shows which track its playing.
The only problem is that there is no sound. Do you guys think this is a fuse? If so where are the fuses? I guess thats a lazy question for me to ask but its night time here in Finland right now and its cold and I don't have a warm garage to check this stuff in. I am going to look at it tomorrow when its light out (now that its winter we don't get much daylight
)
Or do you think it is a loose wire? The thing is, about 2 times a week while listening to the radio, the sound will go off, but when I press the station preset again it comes right back on again. Its annoying and I wasn't sure what was causing that but it didn't happen so much so I never really worried about it. I am not sure if this has something to do with the sound being completely gone now or not. But now pressing any button doesn't have any affect on the sound
Any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated!

What type of sound system do you have?
Do you have the factory amp in the trunk or just the base system with amp built into the HU?
If you have the base system then you should check all fuses, then pull the HU and check the wiring behind it (this is a long shot since I would expect sound from atleast some speakers if wiring was lose).
If none of those ideas pan out it's probably time to replace the HU.
If you have a factory amp then you need to remove the passenger side trunk liner and check the fiber going to the amp as well as the amp itself. You may need a new amp.

Sounds like you have Karmon Kardon or Bose and its not talking to the head unit. I agree with acr2001, check fibers in the trunk and the fuse for the amplifier.
If you're under warranty just take it in.

Hi all and thanks for the replies! Sorry it took me so long to get back here to post something. The next morning everything was working again ![crazy](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/crazy.gif)
I guess it wouldn't be a fuse then and is probably loose wires somewhere like you guys are saying. I have the Harmon Kardon system so I will do what you suggest and take a look at the connections to the amp. I just hope I don't have to pull the HU cause that seems like a pain in the butt.
Thanks again and I will get back to you guys on this. I hate when someone has a problem, people post suggestions, and then the OP:er never gets back about the end result. So thanks!

Ditto on Jake's post, amp went out at 6k!! I also had the cable replaced between the CD Changer and HU, it's possible that may cause a hiccup with the fiber ring. Something the dealer's gonna have to look at.

I have this problem quite frequently. Its always been the optical cable in the back of the CD Changer. If I move it, restart the car, it will work. Thankfully I haven't had the issue in a couple months **knock on wood**
