Interesting - the long driveshaft to the rear axle? Did they say what was wrong with it?

I never updated either... My problem ended up being the rear differential. Took it off and opened it up. The pinion gear was missing a big chunk! I guess i'm lucky the whole thing didnt' seize up rip the driveshaft right off. Problem is I found you can't buy a pinion gear ANYWHERE. I ended up having to buy the whole box from MB at the referb price of $1700.
I figure this happed for one of two reasons:
1: From driving at 120 mph one too many times on the highway.
2: From the winter driving. The rear wheel drive slips during turns on snow and ice, then catches when the wheels hit the tar. Gears dont like that too much.
Traded the car in immediatly for an 07' CLK350

Mercedes-Benz
So I had new tires put on and another dealer look at it and they couldn't solve it. I took it to my Mercedes-Benz mechanic and he discovered that the wheels and tires were improperly balanced. After he rebalanced it no more noise or vibration!!!! So happy! Now I'm gonna keep the car

Seriously? Could it have been all this time your tires are out of balance?

What Tyres are you running? Run your flat hand over the tread on all wheels opposite direction to rotation & feel for any cupping or feathering. Could be tyre noise.

I have Michilen Primacy MXV, installed about 2 months ago, right after I bought the car. I have less than 1k on the new tires. The car feels balanced at all speeds.
I will check the tires but i think it's more air resistance, like wind force aganist something under the hood!! This only happens between 38-42 mph.

My car and a dealer car both had a drone at 40mph. Mine has done it since i got it and the dealer one was an 05 c320 with 10k on it when i drove it and they both do the same dam thing. I had the dealer check everything under warranty and they could not find anything wrong so i gave up on it lol

Dr Ruck, what do I need to look for when you check the UJ, Flex discs, etc. also is the differential easy to inspect with out taking that hard rubber back plate off? thanks,

UPDATE: to my car to the dealership
Update: I took my 2002 c240 to the dealership for a diagnostic. The immediately said that the motor and transmission mounts were shot and need to be replaced before they could further diagnose any other noises. the total cost would be $1000 to replace two engine and 1 transmission mount. I am assuming this not to difficult for a DIY repair on a saturday. they said it should take about 4 hours to complete. is there a procedure that some has done this already? I would appreciate the help. thanks!

Not difficult. Here is 272 - pretty much the same as 112 engine. First Diagram is M112. See pdf's for method

It was Bad Motor and Trans mount
Dr. Ruck, Thanks for the pdf's. I ordered the Motor and Tranny Mounts along with the center drive shaft bearing. i just ordered the bearing and not the support. Should change out the support too? let me know. thanks again.

engine and tranny mounts, and center support.
Dr Ruck, after I remove and under side panels and heat shields I should be able to get to the center support right? do you have a procedure for that? I ordered just the bearing, should I have ordered the support and the bearing? The Flex discs seemed to be just fine. I will upload pictures if I can. Thanks again for your help.

Sorry - I don't have a procedure. Pretty obvious though. You have to remove the propshaft.

Help - still hear that noise
UPDATE: I spent the whole weekend removing and replacing parts. The two motor and transmission mounts along with the center drive shaft support have been replaced. the vibrations are gone and car feels a lot better on the road. but the whirring, whining, or growling sounds are still there. What else can I do without turning up the radio. Please help. Dr Ruck, thanks again for the procedures and the advice.
