While DIY changing front headlight bulb, I dropped the clip that hold the bulb inside... during one of the service I asked service rep if they can give me some clip and he said unfortunatly it come with assembly and spare
does anyone know where to to buy just that clip ??
are u talking about the black plastic piece that twists and locks into place? i had a problem with that last year as well, i was missing two of them. what i did was i took the ones from the high beams and used them for my low beams and then drilled a hole through the black plastic caps and screwed a long bolt in to hold the high beam bulbs in place. it worked.
probably best bet to search your local junk yard if the dealers don't carry them.
i almost lost one on the 204 when i was changing bulbs as well. good thing i have those magnetic arms for picking up bolts if you drop'em into the engine bay.
I know this is super-old but I'm having this same problem and I'm about to order these replacement clips from Amazon for my 1998 E320 ... if anyone has any insight, it looks like it'll work:
This is an old thread, but there is very little information on replacing the H7 bulbs in the 2006 C280. The left low beam went out on the wife's MB. Thought I'd try to get a little brighter bulb with a higher color temperature. Went to NAPA and got their "best" bulb. I then attempted to replace the bulb myself. The manual made it look pretty straight forward -- it's not! Very difficult to access. You need to install by touch because you cannot see anything. My manual shows a quarter turn counter clockwise to remove and clockwise to install. I don't think the bulb is seating properly and does not "lock" into place. Beam pattern looks like c--p.
Tried to take a photo of the socket but that didn't work. I need either a photo of the key and twist socket or the socket with clips as mentioned above. I'm beginning to think my model might use clips. How would I determine that?

That is a real bugger short of removing the entire headlight. If the filaments in the lamp are not in proper alignment with the reflector they will look like crap. Have you tried one of these to see what fixture you have? They extend out like an antenna.

Funny, as my hand was jammed into the back of the headlight bucket and I was not sure I could get it out, the idea that I needed an inspection mirror hit me! Searched my tool chest but couldn't find it. Another idea flash -- how about the flexible Milwaukee scope I bought years ago. After digging around the garage I found the red case, but no charger and battery is leaking. Might have to borrow wife's makeup mirror!
In reality, I'm probably going to get a new Milwaukee scope with a built in camera and SD card.
After moving the new bulb around in the reflector, I can see how the position changes the light pattern dramatically. I'm wondering if only the OEM bulb has the right geometry to throw the correct light pattern and maximum light. The old dead bulb is marked "2B23 01/8 Philips H7 12V 55W DOT 12972 E1 22Z U GERMANY". Hoping this is OEM but the C280 is 18 years old with 100k+ miles so might be a replacement.
Regarding access, my mechanic, who is fantastic, has suggested removing the wheel/fender liner. Seems a bit much to replace a bulb, but . . .
