Feel Like A Moron! 2007 c230 sport

I apologize for the crappy first thread topic, but.....I have an 07 MB C230 Sport w/ 17k miles, and well, need to start fixing the girl up! This was a huge bonus for me, I was coming from a toyota echo ! Talk about a golf cart on the road!!

So, with that said, I reviewed the stickied brake thread, and couldn't really get a hold of what the consensus was...it seems friction master was the top choice of pad replacement?

So, what should replace my front/rear pads with? I'm a So-Cal resident for reference to part stores.

Again, while this is my first post, I have been a silent browser for a while now! Anyways, I plan to be more active here, often looking at the DIY threads for cool add on's! Or at least, have them done...

Thanks again,

Kristy

Welcome Kristy,

As for the pads, porterfield was the aftermarket brand of choice for the car, but sadly they don't make pads for the 05 and up 2-pot brakes that came on the C230's.

I've just gone with the original pads. You'll have plenty other modding opportunities for your car.

Hi Phil!

Regarding the pads, should I source them directly from the dealer? Is their even an alternative parts source for OEM pads/parts?

WOW, what grill is on your c class? It's damn sexy! I need the source for that too!

That's not entirely true. I have a set of Porterfield R4-1 pads for the front of your car (2 piston calipers). I ended up ordering the wrong ones so now i'm trying to get rid of these! They do not advertise this part number on their site for some reason but it is AP1126 for the 2 pots.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the info! I remember e-mailing them a few months back and they told me that they didn't make them for our car...

I'm just trying to help out... She didn't come to our forum going "yo, yo yo! deez pank led's look gansta!" so I figured that I'd be nice.

my grill is actually painted with OE MB 030 black paint, so it's colormatched to my car

That's correct. They started making them in November and are only supposed to be making them for a short time. Before that, NO ONE was making a good aftermarket pad for the 2 pots.

i use akebono ceramic pads with no problems. No brake dust and slightly better stopping power over oem. You can buy them on tirerack for $90.

I'm pretty sure they don't have them for the 2005+ 2piston fixed caliper brakes.

Hey Guys,

Thanks much for the guided info, your all pimps .

I went ahead and purchased the OEM pads referenced above. While I wouldn't mind looking into aftermarket pads Temjin, I need to keep it easy for my first attempt at changing them. Now to get the tools and car lifty thingy I need! lol

Since joining, I have decided to go after something in the aftermarket audio area, but I''ll save that for a new thread, wish me luck this weekend for this one

good choice! Although they dust a bit more than some other aftermarket choices, there's nothing really wrong about the stock pads.

Just wanted to update the thread!

Got the pads in late Jan and they're still holding strong, thanks for the great help. I've been under the radar once again, but I find most of my questions are answered via the search function, so why post you know?

what was the purpose of changing your brake pads? were they worn out at 17k miles? I have 196XX miles and so far mine are still holding strong. Unless they changed them when I did the Service A a few months ago.
But I do H A T E these OEM pads.. they're so damn dusty..

+1. I am approaching 50K miles on my 07 and still have quite a bit of pad left. In all fairness, that is 80% highway. You must drive a LOT in the city.

PS: Welcome to the board

I have the original OEM pads with 33k miles. I just had service A done and the technician said my pads still have plenty of life left. OEM pads are very dependable and long lasting. I will stick with OEM pads whenever the time comes for them to be replaced...
