It brings up some interesting questions. There are a few different models of this new Comand unit. It is also used in the new CLC. Can any version of it be installed in the W203? It seems like it would be potentially plug and play in our car, or at least close (probably would need a bluetooth antenna, and maybe microphone rewire. HK sound would not work, but stock audio system probably would. cd changer would not work, but it has one built in) but it seems that it would be easier for us than it is for the E class owners.

The new Comand unit would add:
Built in bluetooth
DVD movie playback
MP3 DVD support
40 GB built in hard drive
SD card slot
6 DVD / CD changer built in! (optional?)
Backup camera support
Much improved Comand / Navi interface
HD radio?? not sure about that one...

This would be for facelifted (MOST) W203 only, if anything.

I believe the Comand unit in the CLC (last picture) would be a direct fit in a facelifted (2005+) W203. I'm not sure what kind of wiring changes may be required. I know the fiber bus is different now. The existing fiber is ok, but if you have any items on the fiber bus (voice comand, telephone, cd changer) they wont work anymore. The good news is that the new Comand unit has voice comand, bluetooth, and cd changer built in!

Someone needs to be the guinea pig once the prices on these come down!

The other issue is that the CLC is not sold in the US, so it would not be a US Comand unit. I read somewhere that the units are the same in Europe and the US as far as maps, so you can just upload US maps onto it off the right DVD. I'm not sure if you could get the AM radio stations to work though. All of this is theory and could be completely wrong.

Build - fit a new style command to a 2005 c230, this is what they emailed me about price -
It can be done but we need the car here in the shop and i would guess cost would run about $4000.00
