Selling COMMAND, installing 2.5
As the title states I am going to retrofit a NGT v2.5. Do not ask how or how much, I will post that after it is done......
But, to budget the project (or actually to sneek the budget past the wife), I need to sell my original parts:
ECE COMMAND--Has 15/04 software (latest software with engineering mode), DVD playback, VIM enables, region free, MP3 enabled, RDS
$850 obo
Navigation w/ 07 disc--Includes everthing needed to retrofit, drive, bracket, wiring, disc....
$750 obo
6 Disc changer-- Make an offer
AGW--Make an offer (if your car is an 03, you will need this for the COMMAND and nav)

before you start this conversion...do you have HK sound? do you have access to stardiagnose with developer mode? do you care about the stowage compartment underneath the radio to open? Do you have an Ipod kit?
if one has a bonestock european W211 with an audio20, this is such an easy conversion...if one has a pretty full optioned car with HK sound, TV tuner, Ipod kit, phone - this conversion starts to become a lot of swapping of components and rewiring the HK sound amplifier requires changing connectors and pins.
Once the 2009 comand is installed in a pre 2009 W211 it can not be accessed with the regular stardiagnose...the stowage compartment (CD changer) can not be openend anymore with the 2009 comand...the Ipod kit (and interface) is different...the TV tuner is different...TV/DVD while in motion requires an aftermarket adapter...UHI/MHI phone is different and becomes BT operated (not a problem for most people but I always have my phone cradled)...antenna connectors are all different and have to be run to the front instead of to the trunk...and so on.
The 2009 comand does communicate with the IC and steering wheel perfectly.

greetingz,
Let me join the club of those MB owners who want to upgrade to the new comand NTG2.5
By looking at the new unit it seems will be easy upgrade for those of us who have an AUDIO 20 CD unit installed.
For me the irony is that I just retrofited my 2007 W211 with comand NTG1 just a few months ago. The good part about that is that I have all the Audio20CD cables there for the upgrade.
So what I need is take the old NTG1, Navi processor, AGW out and sell them.
But I do have a TV Tuner and a CDC also retrofitted !!! and a factory telephone option (386) - Which might complicate things !!!! In fact I am almost sure it will...
So any info provided as to what is needed (harnesses etc..) , would be most welcome
I will be watching myself (I have already bought a BD0880 - new comand already and want to start conversion soon), but except watching you can rest assure I will write back here to the forum to let all others know
Best Regards for now
George
P.S. Photos of the new comand attached

1. Do not need the lower storage compartment
2. Bluetooth is built into radio
3. I understand there is a lot of wiring, and yes access to the star w/ wngineering mode is avail
4. It WILL work with the steering controls and cluster...and voice control
5. I do have HK sound, but will not be using the factory sound amp as the AGW is built into the NGT2.5 and will not work with mine. The orginal amp doesnt sound too great anyway....
6. Everything is there...just in the wrong places....I also have ALL needed connectors...
7. I am not worried about i-pod (it has memory card drive)
8. I-pod, sat, HD radio can be added w/ additional control units ($$)
I am not saying it is plug and play, but definitally possible.

I am very interested to see how this turns out as I have a 2007 E63 with HK and iPod but want the 2009 Comand. Can a camera be hooked up to the 2009 Comand too?

Good luck with your install and keep us posted.
Sounds doable for sure with determination and the right resources for connectors and wiring/cabling.

There is a similiar thread on benzworld as well.
1. You are NOT going to be able to wire new COMAND to the old AGW.
2. If you have cheapo system already (audio 20/50) w/o AGW, there is a WIS document on retrofiting new command. Basically all you do is install new COMAND, install retrofit GPS ant (mounts inside dash above cluster), and SCN code. VERY STRAIGHT FOREWARD.
3. It is doable for people with HK or non-hk w/ AGW. The am/fm ant moves to the front (avail PN from MB dealer for audio 20 car), Voice control wiring needs to be rerouted, CAN (2 wires) needs to be rerouted, AGW power should be rerouted to COMAND (fuse28), and :
a- HK sound amp needs to replace AGW
b- speaker wires need to be routed to front and ran off of new COMAND
4. All connectors are avail from dealer. The come as individual housings, clips, and wire leads.
5. The navi antenna can be:
a-retrofited (using audio 20 retrofit, NON US)
b- rerouted using extension cable to splitter (US cars already have ant for teleaid)
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SWAP FOR MOST PEOPLE. IT WILL REQUIRE EXTENSIVE ELECTRONICS WIRING KNOWLEDGE. IF YOU SPLICE OR TEST WRONG WIRES YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE AND ISSUES!!!!
I will have everything up and running next week......05 e500, HK sound system w/ COMAND and Nav....soon the be 05 e500 w/ NTG 2.5 w/ 6 disc DVD, Nav, bluetooth, Voice Control, HK sound........

E200K Avantgarde Facelift (May2007),Auto,Sunroof,Heated Seats,Xenon,Telephone,Parktronic,COMAND,
Thanks for the note
Apparently I bought BD0880 (the unit without CDC) . So is my installed CD changer going to work with the new comand ?
Also I had bought a Kombi TV Tuner A221 820 4889 (it seems to be what you are suggesting - so It should work)
HAve you got any document with the AUDIO20CD / BD0880 describing the pin differences ??
Thanks again

Could you possibly attach it to an email and send it to me (gmatj@otenet.gr)
Thanks in advance

Valid for option codes:
809 (MY09)
523 (audio 20)
and several others.....shows not valid for 494 (us version) but that is like b/c most us version (except very early MY03) have COMMAND and AGW. Document should mostly apply.
I cannot give out document, but can be downloaded with a subscription to STAR Tekinfo.
Cliff note version:
1. remove old radio
2. install voice control lever (may req addition parts depending on vehicle option codes)
3. remove cluster and install retrofit ant 4. reinstall cluster and new COMAND
5. perform coding
6. have a nice day and enjoy your new radio.....

@ gmatj: yes that TV tuner should work...pin layout docs can be printed out by your dealership...you will loose TV and DVD in motion unless you use an aftermarket module for that.

I did in 211s without HK sound and choose not to go 2009 in my own full optioned E220CDI and recently bought US E55 with an audio50 - eventhough I do have the 2009 comand and HK amps in stock...too much hassle and not enough gain.
