My last chance on MBZ extended warr. Opinions?

Extended warranty or not.
They dropped the 4 year (additional) and now offer only the
3 year, but still at 100K miles.
My 1st year, I've driven ~16k miles, which means
I'll be out of warranty closer to 3 years.
A buddy of mine who own a repair shop (not Benz)
says they (extended warranties) are a waste of money,
that all new cars are designed to go 100K miles without doing anything to them, and that things like the supercharger etc, are
covered under the emmisions portion of the original warranty, which is for 5 years, and something like 80K miles I beleive.
At something around 2-3K, I could absorb a couple of repair bills and still be ahead of the game.
What do you guys think?
Anyone find a dealer willing to deal on the price of the extended warranty?
Hooen in Carlsbad where I bought the car offered me a discount
when i first bought the car, but I declined at the time....wanted to see if I liked the car enough to even consider having it that long. And after writing a check for 33 grand, I wasn't feeling like spending another 2.5 for something I might never use.
They have the advantage of owning statistical data that shows what parts are high risk, and they make sure they are not on the list with a few exceptions. IMHO, if would be rare for you to make any claims let alone claims equal to the price of the warranty.
If you were likely to make claims equal to or greater than the purchase price of the warranty, they would not offer it to you. After all, they are not in business to lose money.
Problems ranged from power seat malfunction, were they had to replace my whole seat to my power steering pump going out.
For some odd reason, alot of things started happening right after I passed the big five "0" factory warranty. hmmmmmm....
Conspiracy???

For me, the extended warranty is just something to help with the resale down the road. I normally sell my cars myself and not trade-in so the new buyers usually feel good about a factory warranty.

If you're thinking of doing this to add value to the car at trade-in time, forget it, you'll lose half or more.
