Alternator/Battery error "no communication with computer"
Hi guys, I have an alternator/battery warning error on C230K 2003. I took it to some MB repair shop, they rebuilt the alternator and they said they replaced a regulator, but the error is still on. I checked the battery- it's charging fine. After testing car with a scanner. It said something like " no communication between regulator/ and computer" Repairs shop said i have to buy a brand new Alternator from MB dealers but i really don't feel like wasting another 800$
Anyone has any ideas what to do with it?
Also does anyone know where i can get a good PC software for testing Mercedes?
(i want to use USB2 on my laptop and connect it to the mercedes via special cable )
Thanks,
Anyone has any ideas what to do with it?

Thanks man, Carsoft looks good i think i'll buy it from ebay.
For the error, it says SIM4 000 446 69 02 -F-
and then in the description "no communication between regulator and computer"

Thats odd... I don't think C Class HAS any communication between regulator and computer.
Thats like an S class feature.

Sorry, don't have that info. Have to buy that Carsoft thingy first...

Regreatfully I have a C class, but it is weird indeed. I was thinking that some wiring might be screwed up because there's nothing wrong with the car, just that stupid red error on the screen

Just get a cheap $39 OBDII/CAN scanner first.

Of course, 1st thing to do is check all the electrical connections.
Maybe the plug on the regulator is not seated properly.
If you did not have this error prior to the alternator replacement, it's unlikely
anything in the ECU was changed.
It's more likely something was done wrong in the repair.
I mentioned it only, because I recall reading that on more expensive
benz's there is some sort of computer hookup directly to the alternator,
sends a pulse orsomething...sorry I don't recall the details.
Makes the alternators even more stupid expensive.
C Class never had this feature, at least in the US.
