I decided to follow FSS -- synthetic oil, huge crankcase volume, etc...
On a related note, my wife & I just bought an Acura 3.2TL. The dealer gave us the spiel about bringing it in for a free oil change at 1K. I read the F'ing manual -- it specifically states NOT to change the original oil early -- specially formulated for new engine break-in, etc.
We Americans have been brainwashed to change oil unnecessarily, IMO.

I changed my oil to full synthetic at 1000, again at 5k and every 5k after that. 17000+ miles and my motor purrs. No smoke, no black residue at the exhaust...and I'm lovin' it.
I look at it this way, it's cheaper than rebuilding an engine after 50000 miles because the bearings baked with old oil.
