Identical instance with my 2005 C230K - same error code. How easy to replace the thermostat? Any help is greatly appreciated - thanks a million.

Dead easy! Unbolt housing - take out old stat - put in new stat - bolt up. Top up coolant with 50/50% mix of Benz coolant & de-ionized water & get air out of system by squeezing top hose. Cancel P0128 code.

Thanks a million! I'll take a look when I get out of the office this evening and post a reply as such to my progress. I greatly appreciate the sincerity here.

Regards,

Jeff

Talking Problem solved!!

I took my Benz today at a new shop that opened and well, they found the problem.... it was just the compressor that needed some service, proper oil, proper gas pressure and THAT'S IT!!! the cooling fan does work

It only cost me $150 for everything they did (diagnostic and repairing)

This is a happy ending story for me.

Now that's a good question... I guess the compressor was trying to defend itself

i think i will have to replace the thermostat, i got the code 128 and "check coolant level" msg..

but i got a question, will we have to drain the coolant first? maybe i should replace coolant while im doing this also... what coolant is recommended? i wanna use something premixed because i dunno which type of water to use.. and rather not mix my self..

128 means you need a new thermostat. You will at least have to top up the coolant. You need MB coolant meeting spec 325.0 or 325.1. Buy from a dealer & mix 50/50 with distilled or deionised water. MB premix is not available in the US I'm informed.
