How do I make that function: Hold Lock/Unlock to Close/Open Windows work.. Better?

Hey.

I've searched the forums, but maybe my search parameters weren't as good... but I've learned that I have to 're-sync' my windows to essentially make the 'summer function' work properly.
The 'summer function' I'm talking about is the neat little windows open/close thing when it's hot and steamy in your car or you forgot to close a window and don't want to go back into the car just to close it =/

So... from what I've read about re-sync'ing
You essentially open/close all your windows and Hold it for 5~10 seconds in that depressed state; all the way.

I've gotten my windows to respond; ie: open when I hold unlock and close when I hold lock to work after 're-sync'ing'
But when I tried it again later in the day.... it didn't work again =(

Anyone have some insight into this?
I like how cool it looks, but it's kinda' embarrassing when you say, "Hey guys, lookit thisss!" and nothing happens...

Err... Resync all your windows using the driver's side control panel... and do the sunroof too.

The "eye" (IR Reciever) is ONLY on the driver's side door handle; it's a little matte black looking square next to the keyhole. Point your smartkey at it at no more than 2-3 feet. Check your batteries too.

Or just improve the whole setup with a Mods4Cars module. Do a search - I've discussed it before here. It's not cheap, but it makes summer driving much more enjoyable.

There is one on the passenger side door-handle too (the front passenger side)

There is not one on the passenger side handle in the front on my 2005. Driver door only.

I already re-sync'd it from the driver's side, and I only do it when I'm in clear line and really close to my car. Essentially when I'm 3~4 footsteps away =/

It works when I sync it right, but never consecutively after

I heard a lot of people have trouble with them too

So does this only work when your key is in a clear line of sight to the IR sensor on the door hanlde? I didn't even know we had this feature. Is this standard on all W203?

I'm going to have to try this during my lunch break. (NOW) haha

Nevermind... I just answered my own question. Only works when your in a clear line of sight and only works within a few feet away. You can't exactly be inside the house and close your windows when it rains unexpectedly.

Pretty neat feature.. I had to pay extra to have this done to my Titan. Opens & Closes the Sunroof too!

Thanks Jimmy!

I have always had trouble with this feature on my car. The dealer replaced the receiver in the door handle while the car was under warranty and it has worked better since then but never 100% of the time. I live with it. I did quickly learn not to ask people to watch. LOL

I remember my 1989 420SEL had a feature that when you put the key in the lock and turned it to lock and then held it, it would close the windows and sunroof. Looks like the same type of thing except remote control. I've had the same problem with my '05 and even placed the remote within 12" of the door handle and have it not work one time and work the next. It is a brand new key fob so shouldn't be the battery. Sounds like something MB could work on to improve the functionality and reliability.

Haha, the function is totally neat when it works.
But it just frustrates you when it doesn't since it worked before =/
Functionality is there; from MB... but the reliability part... haha.

The old idiom goes, "The more gadgetry advanced you become the more problems you incur from said gadgets."

Well... I have to go in for warranty stuff eventually anyways.
Do they cover cracked (side mirror signal glasses), fogging up Fog lights and a mal-functioning rear light?
The one that turns on if you turn your lights to the brightest function and pull it out two clicks? My right one is out... and is noticeable when the left one is on...

I haven't tried the key method, but it should work as it works for other cars I've used, but I'd much rather prefer the fob-key method

Spring Break come faster!

The two-clicks out pull is the rear fog lamp. There is not a rear fog lamp on the right side. It just has 1, and it's on the left. It's not for use with your low-beams all the time, it's just for foggy conditions.

I don't think they'll cover cracked lenses, though. That's not manufacturing defect.

on the older w203s there are 2 sensors, one on the drivers door and one on the passengers. on the newer 203's and 204's, there's only 1. my cousin's 204 works great, i was 10-20 feet away and it works. on mine, i have to be .1mm away to get it to work, and it's only a 50% chance. the older the car is, the less it starts working, and i have an '01! :[

So the rear fog (double click) is only on the driver's side?
If that's so, then it's an actual oem thing, and I don't have a problem.

But as for that crack on the driver mirror and the fogging up of my driver side fog lens

Yes, one rear fog and only on the left. You can try about the cracked lenses but that's not a defect and you'll probably get denied.
