thumbs up - H&R rear sway bar

installed 1 on my car -06 c350 lowered w kw v2, corner balanced, -1.5 degrees camber, zero toe, on suuuuuuuppper sticky tires--- took me, a novice 3 hours , would take me 2 the next time,,,, took car to my favorite east tn mountain road and it was a blast, more balanced and better turn in, very much worth the price $189 plus ship from tire rack, shout out to MRGM1 and splinter who recommended this upgrade and they were RIGHT ON. ,,, "Happiness IS the next corner"

People say it's the rear one that makes the big difference - you agree?

Anyone know the magic rear sway diameter that makes your car balanced (ie BMW-like) WITHOUT triggering oversteer?

I think it's hell to trigger oversteer on these cars but I would like that dimension too - did AMG get it right?

The question would be if anyone has done a rear bar ONLY (stock front, stock springs + shocks) and found the magic number.

Having AMG front + back definitely makes things more balanced, but there is still slight understeer. (probably for my own good )

As I've said in the past, for the coupe at least,
with it's big butt hanging up in the air,
a thicker rear bar in combination with the AMG front bar is a good combo indeed.
No oversteer, not by a mile, but now at speed on a curvy road,
it grabs in front whereas before it just kinda pushed, and at times that was pretty scary.
Still not as balanced as a BMW but closer.
In fact driving an M3 was the thing that made me realize that the
1500 I'd spent on CO's AND the AMG bars just weren't enough, my car still handled like crap compared to the perfect balance of the m3.
Swapping in the H&R rear 19mm bar vs. 16 mm AMG bar made all the difference.
Maybe could even be a little thicker??? But someone would have to try it.

So for you Slammer, spend the 170 bucks, get it on ebay it's a no brainer.

Good post MLG. I would be interested in this mod. I am not clear if this is simply a rear bar w/stock front, or am I missing the front bar mod in the OP. I would want to maintain a nice balance and just a rear bar mod seems like it could go to far without some kind of compensation in the front. Sometimes a simple matter of eurothane swaybar bushing can make a nice, suddle differance. If These types of bushings are available, I don't know about it, but I would love to do this type of mod. If all things can stay stock, I would do this rear bar in a heartbeat. A full spring/shock setup is out of the question right now for me.

It sounds like 19mm H&R rear sway is the trick - It's not just the diameter - it's the material it is made from & it's effective spring rate.

I say this should be a thumbs up to H&R in general. I had their springs and sways on my Focus and loved them. I also have their springs (Koni yellow shocks/struts) and sways on my MB- love them on this car also.

IMO if your car does not already have the thicker front sway bar you should do the front+rear. Unless you already have the AMG front bar which is 20mm then the H&R 19mm rear bar would be a good combo. If you want a even stiffer setting Eibach's 24f/22r will do the trick even better.

i have stock amg front, i only replaced the rear and it made a subtantial difference, only down side is a slightly increased harshness over rough street, after extreme perf tires, i think this mod is THE best bang for buck to increase driving pleasure in this car.

Cool. Pleased the rear H&R anti-roll bar worked well for you – in conjunction with your other mods.

Chassis tuning returns tangible dividends every time you’re behind the wheel. No WOT necessary. Tweak the underpinnings to properly unleash the car for which you’ve already paid.

Works for some of us…

So is the consensus to only do the rear bar and leave the front alone? My 06 C230 is stock (I have the AMG bumpers and brakes, not sure if that does anything with the suspension), should I do both sway bars or just the rear? At this time I have no plans to lower, but I won't rule that out for the future. Would that make a difference in which bar(s) to go with? As for the front bar, does anyone know any way other than to disassemble things to know if I have 10mm or 12mm end links?
