Custom M271 Air filter and Carbon Canister

I have been waiting for someone to make or sell a custom air box, but couldn't wait any longer. Well after removing the dam factory air box over 3 times already for $6 hose, and to clean the MAF sensor. I decided to throw it way and make life easier... I made a custom K&N airfilter from a K&N Ralt Formula Air filter, cut shorter to fit. and bought a carbon canister custom to fit airfilter, and conncected it to my ram air. Everything fits and clears hood. Here are some pic.. Now cleaning MAF and changing anything under airbox is a cake.. Cost me around 200.00 for everything. Worth it , looks better, lighter, and drives better.

that looks great, but it seems to me that that is smaller than the stock airbox.

how are the dimensions?

K & N Part number

I used K & N part #28-4125 and cut it to length.. The Factory and K & N replacement Base outside diameter is 127mm.. The one i used is 124mm. New one is thinner to allow more are flow in and around. Height is about the same or longer depends on how you cut .. You are going to have to make a custom 6" canister for air filter. I will measure mine and post later. Maybe can modify to work with factory box, with a few cuts here and there.

looks great, but the part that is circled in red in this pic, doesn't it have an opening to the stock air box? and what does it do? cause i dont want a CEL to pop up and tell me that something has gone wrong. Like what are the rolls that this part/opening play, cause it would be great if i could make something like yours.

I'm not sure I'm a fan of the rig... and this is coming from a person who developed a ram-air intake too!

the red part you circled is an outlet for any water in the airbox, it's also attached to the airbox to hold the ECU (which is also in the red circled)

Here is the website if someone wanted to buy and make a custom intake for their car. part # CDA100-150 is for 4cyl. For a V8 I would suggest two, one perside. http://www.bmcairfilter.com/infoCDA.asp

Mine was a 1OFF, which I made myself, but found this after mine was done if anyone is interested to get.

"TEAMREDLINE" You said it cost you 200, the k and n cost 40, and the link that you posted the air box cost about 300, so total after shipping would be 400? and on the link that you posted the carbon fiber airbox with the part number you posted says it is for a v6 not a 4 cylinder, is this the airbox that you used on your m271. im willing to do it for 200, but 400 is double, where did u get your carbon fiber airbox, because i want to use the same people, unless you sell them then if so sign me up

There are replicas of the one sold by BMC (especially around european race shops) that are 'carbon fiber' but sell for 50 euros instead of 400 dollars...

In the end it's a cotton gauze filter wrapped in a real CF or cf laminated box ... The main change in this system is the re-routing of the inlet duct, and probably not any significant difference in the filter/box.

Great mod (have been thinking about something like this recently, but I want to take a smaller filter right up to the vent, and have a pipe between it and the MAS rather than have the filter on the MAS)....
