Melted Bix Socket Fumed Housing What to Do????

Hi guys and girls

For some odd reason the socket to the bulb suddenly melted and fumed the housing to my bix...now the housing is fogged up.... i have searched the forum and found threads on it but none of them talked about how to clean it up...is it possible to just take apart the bix and wipe of the residue on the lense and i also notice other members saying the chrome piece is easily scratched so how or what should i clean it up with? Also can i replace just the clear glass lens for the bix if i can can anyone provide me with a PN...any help will be greatly appreciated ill try to post some pics later

thanks

Yes, you can take the bix apart.

I found it....
1st remove the offending headlight..
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...s-removal.html

Then go here start at post 53 I think it is...
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...16#post3095316

Then go to last page of same thread for pn for new socket + igniter.

thanks guys for the quick reply....actually the igniter is fine and i wired up another socket for now so i got light....more worried about how im gonna clean up the housing (lens and the chrome piece)....should i take it apart myself or get it done at a bodyshop im scared i wont be able to seal it properly and get moisture in the housin afterwards...

btw will the new igniter get more light output cuz it provides more voltage?

Make sure that the bulb is seated properly and the socket as well. I had the same problem with my bix a while ago. If you want to replace the igniter, contact Steve (mbenznl).

You won't get any more light by replacing the igniter. Disassembling the headlight isn't too hard. I havent had any problems with moisture.

I only mentioned the igniter kit since it come WITH the socket.
Do they sell that seperately?

Take it apart, and clean it. No other way around it. And replace the igniter while your at it.

It's polycarbonate. If in doubt, test on an old CD first. I'm 90% sure a wet cloth will do the trick. Just be sure not to leave streaks.

Have you been to any of the W203/RS meets?

Yea, that should work. I used a paper towel and left small scratches, but I didn't care since I was going to paint them anyways.

I was wondering the same thing just in case I wanted to change the lens because I didnt see there were blemishes on the lens in photos when i got them from gary so i was thinking if im taking it apart maybe ill just change the lens but no one replied about a PN so i assume there isn't just a lens replacement

no they aren't...

on the bright side, getting to the projector is easy once the light is apart

DO NOT RUB ANYTHING ON THE CHROME SURFACE OF THE PROJECTOR BOWL

cleaning the lens is ok, but the chrome is very fragile, and is very very very easy to damage
