won't find out until Steve comes in later this month to install my EURO COMAND.
Will ask for you, if you can wait a few weeks. I'll try to take pics of installation too !

The Comand installation guide from MB is on my website. Hope that has answers to all your questions. I didn't do anything special because I installed the W203 Comand on my W203 and this wire is part of the harness. But if you want to install it in another brand of car, the wiring diagrams are there.

I found these directions somewhere on this site I think. But it worked for me.

Command 463 in a W203

It took 15 Minutes. You will have to remove the fuse board with the 50amp fuse on it for the ABS. This is under the bonnet at the rear by the drivers A pillar. You must first remove the Silver unit to the left fuse box unplug the connectors an take it out. Then remove the 3 screws holding the black
fuse board in place. It is best to have the wind screen wipers in mid pos. When the fuse board is removed you will see a plug marked 24, you will need to connect the speed pulse to Pin 3. To run the wire into the car remove and then foam rubber at the back of the box. The wire will then go thru that hole and appear be hide the steering wheel. Open the driver’s door and remove the access panel near the drivers side air vent. The wire will be in there. If you have the radio already removed if you look in the access panel you will see light from the radio hole, thread the wire thru to there. Connect this wire to Connector A pin 1 and Connector C2 pin 6 And all should work ok.

hope this helps.

Mike

An additional speedwire is ONLY needed when installing a 463 comand into a 203 (209)...not when installing a 203 coman into a 203 (209)...

The 463 comand has a 15 degree gyroscope instead of the 25 degree gyroscope that the 203 comands have..meaning that the comand will be less acurate at turns and direction changes...

Talking US COMAND vs. Euro COMAND

For the US command 2002-2004 w203, can you play DVD movies at all if you get the tv tuner? Or is it just the euro command that you can play the dvds while the car is in motion, or is this at all possible? For the euro command do you need the tv tuner to play the dvds or does it automatically play them, Im very Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I want to get the command only for the purpose of watching the dvds, its it really worth it or should i go with an after market dvd player and any suggestions on which one to get.

Thanks

A TV tuner can be connected to both US and Euro spec CD-rom based comands. Please note, that when you connect a TV tuner to a US comand, the TV tuner menu will be in German, and not in English!

The TV tuner comes with two sets of RCA plugs which can be used for hooking up a DVD player, PS2 etc...

Adding a TV tuner to a comand doesn't automatically give you TV while in motion! That is something that needs to be changed in the comand's set up, through Stardiagnose.

A W203 comand, whether it's CD-rom based or DVD based, does NOT have DVD capability by itself; it is NOT the same unit as the Euro spec W211 comands!!!

Whether it is worth it to retrofit a comand and install a TV tuner in your car, is something only you can decide. One advantage of original MB comand / TV tuner is, that you can controle them through the steering wheel buttons...

Thank you Wanda for your time and post reponse. So in order to play dvds while in motion it would be best to purchase the euro command, and what other items besides the tv tuner, cables, and antennas do i need to purchase? Also how much would Steve charge for this. Thank you.

I would like to contribute my experience in this conversion. Going from 463 COMAND to 203 vehicle.

1/ Changed the angle of the gyroscope on the COMAND from 15 degrees to 25 degrees. (Grey to Yellow clip) - can be done manually with protractor.

2/ Remove front SAM (3 screws) (wipers at top of wiping motion). Requires a mini ratchet tool with 90 degrees head and T20 bit. Carefully removed foam stuffing in thin plastic bag -> leads to ****pit

3/ Remove drivers side fuse box cover.

4/ Remove instrument cluster (needs to be done for GPS antenna anyway).

=========================================

- Run cable from SAM to area where COMAND will be installed. Side driver fuse area is a good place to catch the cable feed.

- clip wire into front SAM in position 24 at pin 3. This position (24) is reserved for auto levelling circuit so if you have Xenon from factory then it might require some extra work to get the extra wire in.

The underside of the SAM is clearly labelled as are the pin positions.

Housing = A 038 545 48 28
MCP Pin = A 013 545 76 26

- on the COMAND side you crimp a MQS pin (well known here) and insert this wire into PIN 6 of C2.

This information is from WIS and I have tested it on my car and it works.

Attn: Euro COMAND owners - questions

I'm thinking of getting a Comand and can only think of 2 good reasons that US might be preferrable, but wanted to hear from those who have the Euro spec units. First, it has been well documented that the AM spacing is different and leaves some AM stations from being tuned. But what I'm most worried about is whether or not Euro Comand has the same problem that Audio10 units have when they switch over to the "traffic band" (or whatever it is) occasionally, even though we don't have that functionality in the US. I ended up getting rid of my Audio10 because it did this way too often. I can only imagine my frustration if I got the Euro Comand and it did this. I've never heard of anyone having this problem, but figured I should at least ask before going ahead with my purchase. Also, any other words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

By the way, save all that "search the forum" talk because I've read just about every thread regarding Comand units and just want some friendly advice before buying.

I believe that functionality can be turned on and off with the Audio 10 (as well as the COMAND). I pretty much listen to Euro COMAND, Audio 10, and Audio 30 APS all the time and have never had that problem (even with the traffic band enabled).

Hmmm...maybe I just had a defective Audio10 unit. It would frequently switch from playing CD to a random radio station, then switch back to CD a few seconds later. In certain areas it would do it constantly and in others not at all, so I assumed it was being fooled into thinking a traffic signal was there. If you are right scorchie (and I bet you are!), then I would probably just assume have the traffic band functionality turned off and should be good to go.

I would be buying from Steve, btw...party at scorchies!

I am curious about the 9 v. 10 Khz AM station spacing in the comand units. Most of the AM tuner IC's have a pin or firmware that switches from 9 to 10. I have never been inside a comand head, but is it possible this function is there, just not documented?

It is completely possible. It is more likely that it is in the firmware of the COMAND (with some logic line toggling the tuner chip capabilities). Change the state of that line, and you're set... if that's how it all works.

However I suspect the tuner in the COMAND is more software driven.

If the AM spacing is that important to you, consider getting a US COMAND unit. MBenzNL has those in stock as well, and the TV tuner feature can still be added (on pre-2005 units).

Euro COMAND - Confirming Part No's

Hello all, i tried searching for my Euro Command install part numbers and got bits and pieces of information over a few threads.

Can anyone confirm the following:

euro command - done
gps antenna - A 203 540 70 06
aux input cable (ipod) - A 203 820 09 75
harness A 203 540 09 09

This is for a 2003 C230K Sports Sedan. Is there anything that i'm missing? I'm planning to buy from the dealer; does anyone have a good source anywhere else? Cheers,

EURO COMAND for TV and NAV2Go for sale

I have a EURO COMMAND unit for sale. It is in excellent condition. The EURO version already has video in motion enabled, and supports RDS (radio text data, like station name and song title), and has individual settings for different audio inputs. It is just the COMMAND head unit. I have the newest Midwest disc, and also a Texas disc from 2002.

I also have a TVANDNAV2GO AV input box for the COMMAND unit.

I'll sell the EURO COMMAND for $950, and the TVNAV box for 300, or both for 1170 plus shipping.
