I couldn't tell just by listening even with the lower dash and center console removed. The broken actuator arms are usually easy to see but the bad stepper motor I could only tell by feeling it with my finger when it was failing. One method is to disconnect them one by one until the noise stops during a resynch operation. A couple are out of reach even to disconnect unless the top of the dash comes off too!

Just take out the center console and lower right/glove box dash to start. You'll have access to the right side motors from there. It's not easy but if you follow the posted DIY for the center console then the right lower dash is easy to figure out and you can access them.

We have the same location of clinking noise and it happened only when I just started the car without AC.

Stepper motor problem? Is this stepper motor the same with the 'linkage' on the sticky thread?

THX

I've been meaning to fix this, but I don't want to the mechanics to ruin my interior with all the dirt and greasy stuffs. I don't think I can DIY this

I guess I'll have to bring in my car once day when my car is kind of dirty inside.

First step is to do a reset to zero out each motor. If no clicks it's unlikely you have a broken motor arm. What year is your car? - you might have missed the problem

Nibo - this is what breaks vs the redesigned article - it is the linkage from the stepper motors

Wtf 10 motors... wow this car is FTW... the dealer would charge so much for this job so no reason checking there. I'm just pissed off because the thing broke right after my new battery install.. Not going to point any fingers but it worked fine the whole time Ive owned the car booooooo

I have a hot date in OC today.. now i have to tell her the clicking is some type of racing upgrade warming up LOL LOL
