Burnin up the oil

My low oil warning came on last night, so I waited until this morning and checked it with both the MFD and the dipstick. MFD said to add 2 qts, and the dipstick didn't even show. It had it's A service 2400 miles ago, and I had them check it again when they did the ESP/BAS fix. So this thing is chugging oil like a freshman at a keg party. No smoke, though. Goes in tues for an exam. I'm also going to have the service manager drive it again and tell me the transmission is supposed to shift like an old John Deere.

Sounds like it's getting worse and worse for you. I'm sorry. Hopefully you can get a new engine and transmission all at the same time and be done with this. I doubt you will get a new car, but hopefully they will finally fix your problems.

oil leaks?

Bad scene man.

You may have some major-league oil leaks. If so, the undertrays must be holding the leaked oil if no drips are visible. The other possibility is some oil burning and some leakage, but anything approaching 0.7-1.0 L/1000 km (621 miles) in oil burning would result in a misty blue entourage.

About the gearbox, ask to drive another 6 speed and if it's appreciably better, insist that the service manager also drive the two cars. Then insist on a new gearbox AND linkage if there is a difference in feel. Do not back down.

Nothing to say about the oil situation other than keep putting oil in until it appears on the dipstick, take the car to the dealer post-haste, ask for a CL 600 loaner and then get the dealer to put a new engine in if the oil is being consumed.

Best wishes, I hope you have these problems dealt with.

I just had the undertrays off to put on my swaybars. No leaks anywhere. I am also going to ask them to take an oil sample and send it to a lab for analysis. The strange thing is that it SEEMS to use more oil when I do Hwy driving. In this case, I had to drive from Atlanta to Auburn (300 mi round trip) and it was when I got back that the oil light came on. Maybe just coincidence. But the car runs great and I got 31 mpg on the trip at 75 mph. I drove a new 230 coupe to compare shifting quality with mine, and it was night and day different. The idiot mechanic who drove them both came back and said he thought mine shifted better. What can you do when you are dealing with that level stupidity.

Yes Indeed!

After my trans replacement, I complained about the torsoinal vibration felt in the shifter handle, and the mechanic stated that his Ferd truck had the same type vibration and it was normal!

Freakin' morons!

Well, at least he didn't compare it to his Grandpappy's Farmall tractor.

Go to a different dealer. I have not been impressed with RBM (thats where you go, correct?), and almost everyone I've dealt with has not shown me much respect (maybe its because I'm 16). I've never been to Carriage House or ACC's service departments, but I can't believe that it could be much worse than RBM.

Actually, I use Carriage House, and they are always very nice, but RBM is an hour away for me. The service advisor said he would personally drive my car and check the transmission. He used to race SCCA, so he at least knows what a manual trans is. The oil problem should be straight forward. They know when they did the A service, and they know is was 2 qts low after 2400 miles, so there is not much to test there.

i had the same problem with the low oil. It turned out to be a leaky head gasket from the rear of the engine.

It is in for the oil consumption test, and the service adviser told me there was a bulletin about the intake actually sucking oil from the engine on some cars. The shop foreman was at lunch so he didn't have the details. I will find out tomorrow and post the findings.
I got a 03 C240 loaner, and it is OK, but the seats are terrible. The bottom cushion is hard as a park bench, and it seems to have way less lumbar support than my coupe. Are they that different than the coupe seats or are the 02 and 03 seats different?
