I recall that when this topic was brought up before, someone had said that changing these settings affects performance only slightly but drastically reduces the fuel economy. To anyone who has had these settings changed, is this correct?

Not that I condone the use or the distributing of Pirated software but just think of what we could do with that. And I think Randy already said in a previous post that its a Mercedes dealer thing. It cant be given out to regular consumers.

I would think 5-7 hp for 15 min labor, it's not that bad.

Just go to your favorite search engine, and search for "star diagnosis". The first hit I got pretty much told me everything I needed to know; and that I wouldn't be getting my hands on the software.
