Seriously Close to Buying a 05 C230K (Need Help)

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to MBworld and a first time MB buyer. I'm looking to buy an 05 C230K with the following specs:

CPO
34000 Miles
Black on Black Color / Manual 6spd.
Dealers asking price $19000.

Obviously, I would like to negotiate a better price with the dealer. However, not sure where to start. I was thinking maybe at $18K and possibly settle at $19K.

However, I have found very similar certified vehicles in California (06's and not 05's) (I live in Illinois) listed at $17800. I would actually like to test drive the car before buying and cant really travel all the way to cali.

Anyways, any opinions on what price I should try to settle on for the car. Also, is there a good way to leverage the price I can get in Cali against him.

Thanks.

05 C230K versus 06 C230 (BUYING ONE 4 sure)

Hello everyone,

looking to buy either one. It seems that a lot of people seem to prefer the 4 cylinder Komp over the V6. (Both in manual)

Any opinions or thoughts on what I should buy. Definetely buying one or the other.

Thanks.

At the time I didn't know about C32 or else I would have bought this one instead.

Good Luck

Get the 2006 if possible. Consider this sound advice from someone who bought a 2005 and loves it. The M271 has the potential to be a troublesome engine. Some have issues, some don't. The M272 2.5L V6 that comes on cars in 2006 and 2007 is a much safer choice.

Okay you shouldn't start two threads this close together about the same issue. I'm just saying. As I said in the other post, I have a 2005 and I love it. But the V6 engine in the 2006 and 2007 is a safer choice as the M271 engine has the potential to be troublesome (even though some people never have issues).

See similar thread in this regard if you don't go for C32 - at least go V6

People get their panties in a bunch about this because the M272 gives up some grunt to the M271. But 2005 was the swan song for the Kompressor C-class, so if you can get the newer engine that's a plus. I love my 2005 and take really good care of the engine, but it has some very un-Benz like characteristics, particularly in how it sounds in confined locations and at start-up. Gruff, to say the least. The main reason I suggest the newer engine, though, is based on the amount of issues I see here with the M271. According to Glyn, a guru here, the 189hp version found in the 2003-2005 C-class is a highly stressed engine.

Like everyone said, save yourself some trouble, go for the V6.
Only thing i see good about the I4 is that its a bit faster to 60, but thats about it really.

Don't forget the biggest advantage the M271 has over the M272... fuel efficiency. The Kompressor gets MUCH better fuel economy than the 2.5L M272.

What i noticed on the M271 is that the intake always gets messed up. I saw atleast 3 members here where the intake gets worn out and rips.

I think the M272 since is naturally aspirated (no supercharger) will be less headache. But I also believe you can mod the M271 more because of the supercharger correct?

That stupid intake tube rips, yes.. but mine hasn't yet (51k) and even if it does it is not a big $$ thing. The bigger issues are the leaking cam sensors (pigtails needed) and potential head issues. A lot of people mod the M271 but from what I've read tuning it any further generally doesn't yield much as it is pretty well tuned stock.

The M271 is stressed out, but it is capable of lasting a long time with proper maintenance. Scottisha on here is at 180k on his 05 C230K with no engine issues ever. The 06-07s have newer powertrains and that's a win when buying a new car.

first, this thread sucks. what's with the noobs these day starting threads without searching. not to mention 2 post with two lousy threads.

second, M271 is not that stressed out. the stock charger only pumps around 6-7psi which is a very low boost setup. it's not that hard to tune to the m271 for more power. people here just don't want to and not willing to spend time/money/effort to find the right tune and proper setup. drex did his studies...did gain considerable amount of power from his m271.

lastly, if anyone's looking to buy a W203 C-class right now. there's no question that they should look for a 2006 or 2007. anything older would be a waste of money for the value vs the potential problems it may return. unless they're considering C32 or C55.
