Unmounting front license plate...What to do about the holes?
Hey guys, I want to remove the front license plate and frame from my 2003 c240 but there are four holes in the front bumper. Is there anything that can be done about this? Or should i just stick with the plate?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I filled mine in with touchup paint it looks 100x better.
Eventually im going to fill up the hole with several applications of touchup paint until the level of the touchup is slightly higher than the bumper, mask around the holes to protect the surrounding paint and then lightly wetsand the touchup with 2000 grit paper to level the paint then finish up with a polish.

here is a good idea:
get those circular sticker (http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?...tk=all&An=text ) and then use your cars touch up paint and paint over them... you can barely tell the difference, i bet ONLY you will even notice it...

I say go with bumper plugs, which you can find here -> http://www.bumperplugs.com
IMO they look better, as they look like small accents to your front bumper, as opposed to filling it with bondo and refinishing, or putting stickers on and painting over. Another member on here had them as part of his sig, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, bumperplugs.com has enough pictures to give you a good idea of what it should look like.

2005 E55, 1959 220s Cabriolet, some other stuff too...
Go to Lowes (in the hardware section) and get 3/16" plastic plugs. You may have to drill your existing holes out a little to clean the bore out, and then put those plugs in there and paint to match with touch up paint.
then...
Bumper plugs are a rip off for $30 a pair, or whatever they charge.

Watch out if a shop fills the holes. There is very little clearance behind the bumper cover, so if the fix isn';t prepped well front and back, when putting the bumper cover back on it may cause damage.
Mine had 4 holes to fill, dealer used screws too long for the plate.

My c230 was a CA owned so it had the 2 holes drilled into it. In NV at this time we are not required to have a front plate so I went with the euro plate. Always a good look.

HEY why not just stick a piece of Chewed GUM and touch up with Nail Polish!!!!!!!!!!
J/k
About the drill part, be very careful because there is a metal / foam thing behind all bumers to absorb the energy when you get hit... I dont think 2 small holes would hurt it, BUT just in case the engineers design so perfectly that with two holes the thing will not work..

Free Front License Plate Brackets in Ca.!!
Received in mail today from Ca. Superior Court, LA County, notice of proposed settlement to class action suit. For cars purchased between 3/1/2000 and 12/31/2004 MB will supply and mount the front license plate bracket for free if you didn't get one at purchase. No wonder the dealers here are demanding to put them on at purchase time. Can you believe someone started a class action for not having the bracket

I didn't want mine drilled either, unfortunately, the dealer insisted upon it. Additionally, it's required under law in the state of CA to have front license plates.
There's another thread that was started on this topic.
https://mbworld.org/forums/sl55-amg-sl63-amg-sl65-amg-r230/152909-why-euro-car-makers-pull-out-usa.html
Apparently the lawyers who started this class action suit got $60k just for their troubles.
I hope I get a second one. I scratched a bit of paint on the 02 E320's front license plate bracket when I took it off to clean underneath it. That one is specific since it is painted in the same colour as the vehicle.
