Help - CEL after changing gas cap
I have a 2k2 C240, and had to change the gas cap because it broke. As soon as I did, within 10 minutes I got a check engine light. I assume it is directly correlated but do you guys just think it's a coincidence?
Any insight would be much appreciated.

Funny thing. I just had the EXACT same issue. I put the gas cap on wrong and i got the check engine light. Even when I put the cap back on correctly the check engine light stayed on. I called the dealership and spoke to my service advisor and told him about the loose gas cap and check engine light. I went in yesterday and they cleared the check engine light for no charge. So i suggest calling the dealership and doing the same.

Lesson learned. Close your gas cap. 
All seriousness though, you can go to Autozone and borrow the OBDII scanner to clear the code. You will be charged on your credit card until you bring it back, but it's a complete refund when you return it.

Gas cap left off, No CEL or warning!
I was surprised to find my gas cap cover not closed all the way and the cap off inside there the other day. It was shortly after getting gas and a car wash also. I immediately felt a little nervous that water may have gotten into the tank, but then realized that the CEL should have come on also. Should I worry about the CEL not coming on or the possibility of water in there?
It's been a couple of days and half a tank since and no problems (yet).

Check Engine Light = Gas Cap
So my check engine light has been on for the past week. I didn't have a chance to take a look at it since I get off work late. Well, this morning I went to work and ask our station mechanic if he had an OBDII reader. He said no and then asked if the car is still running fine. Car has been running fine, engine still purrs. He tells me to check my gas cap. I look at him like "what?!?" 
I went out to check my gas cap and it wasn't turned all the way. I tightened it, started the car, no light. Drove around just in case and still no light. 
I feel like a 'tard after this one.
Lesson here? Check your gas and oil cap.

Happened to me several times with the old 300TD, not yet with the C230.
After the first time, you carry a set of pliers in the trunk to fix it at the pump.
I was in the same boat that you were, and the guys on the W124 forum came through for me.

Ha ha, wow talk about an old thread, but yes, I've had this happen several times. And yup, a pair pliers is whats needed to get it back into proper alignment to start with.

Gas cap lock?
My wife has a 2007 C230. I couldn't find a way to lock the gas cap (to prevent from possible gas thefts). Does this car have a lock cap?
I have a 2007 BMW 335i and the door to gas cap is automatically locks every time I lock my car with a key fob.
