C-Class GAS/FUEL Filler CAP (issues & problems) Thread

The real question is why did you start so many new threads all at once about your car? Another thought is that you cut the retaining cord off completely as it's completely useless.. at least it is to me. I never let the cap just dangle by the cord with the metal pieces banging against the body of the car. You should have a place to snap the cap when removed to avoid it touching the paint.

I'll be honest, that chord is more than useless. I had a 2004 with a cut gas cap cord, and now have a 2005, and now everytime i fill up my gas i think about how useless that cord is. I'm forced to put the gas cap into that holder, and no matter what gas station i go to, the nozzle pushes against the gascap holder and i feel like its gonna snap the filler door off if i don't hold the nozzle.
When the cord was cut i was able to just lay the gas cap inbetween the trunk lid and rear glass and give any finicky nozzles plenty of room. Any one who complains about a cut gas cap cord and is afraid of losing it should be restricted to driving Power Wheels and not real cars.

That strap is a pain. Only good thing in a full service country is that it prevents the pump attendant from walking off with your fuel cap. I stand & hold the darn cap while they fill my car so it doesn't scratch the bodywork or the cap in that stupid door mounted holder.

You all have the wrong idea about me. This vehicle is like new, in and out. I never let the fuel cap hang on the string. I just wanted to know whether there is a trick to replacing it without having to pay for a new gas cap. I've replaced headlights in this car as well as batteries for the key fobs, saving $$ in the process.

I understand the Cord Issue but would like it on myself or at least try it out the correct way. How do you remove the Filler Cap Clip the holds the strap to the Fuel Door? I tried prying it but I'm afraid of breaking the Cap Holder on door. The Center Pin is Flush on Rivet so needle nose pliers wont work to pull pin.
