Where to buy Mercedes Oil Filter Wrench?

It appears from my searching this forum that I need a 74mm 14 flute wrench to change my oil filter. My question is, can I find this at an auto parts store (I have been to 1 with no luck), can I buy one from the dealer, or do I need to order one somewhere online?

Thanks for any help!

You can buy them at the dealer.

What's it called, you have the part number? There's an autozone a block away from my work, I might swing by and pick one up just in case

I'm fairly certain it's called 74/76mm with 14 flutes. That's how mine is labelled.

I'm going to warn against the plastic ones...they often slip. I've got a metal one that has a fitting for a 3/8" drive so you can properly set torque (25N*m). This cap fits many "foreign" cars.

What is the type of the wrench?

I go to Autozone too. But there has NO number such as 74/76 mm on the wrench. There have Type A, B, C, etc. Which type it is 74/76 mm wrench?
Thanks.

It'll be a Type B and it will be 76 mm and...

...it will be slightly loose.

Many say it does not matter, but that slack means the pressure is on the edges, only, of the filter housing and it means that the wrench will jam onto the housing.

Been there. Done that.

I'd get the real 74 mm wrench. They are sold on eBay for $16 on up, delivered.

Or...I'll sell you my Type B, cheap!

I have been using a rubber strap type wrench. One that you pull the thick strap to tighten it and turns the handle. It works very well. You don't really need the special filter wrench.

Hmmm.

I'm sure that will work to take the thing off, but how do you torque the housing back on to the 18.5 ft-lb tells you to?

My guess is that you don't torque it.
