Finally - Pics of C32 Front Brake Upgrade w/ Racing Brake 2-Piece Rotors
SubscribeFinally got around to taking some pics and putting them on picture trail.
Anyway, here's the setup:
New C32 front brake calipers from "Mister" Brenton $600
Akebono ceramic pads from Tire Rack $95
G2 Caliper Paint, Tire Rack $35
Brembo stickers, ebay, minimal (I forget, honestly)
Racing Brake 2-piece brake rotors, same price as group buy in C32 forum
I got the most expensive option, the "open slot" ones (figured I might as well go full hog)
Already had ss lines from Stoptech
Install by TVT Design (sponsor here)
Wheels are OZ Ultraleggeras, 18x8 all around, 18.6 lbs per, powdercoated gunmetal gray (bought from Tire Rack)
Unsprung weights, C230 Brakes / C32 Brakes:
Calipers: 12 / 10.5 (that doesn't sound right, but not going to take off calipers to redo the weighing)
Rotors: 14 / 18 (stock C32 rotors are 25 lbs)
Note: using bathroom scale, standard deviation, 10 lbs
On to the pics:
Stock Pics:

Calipers post-painting - 3 coats of G2 paint, then rubbed on the Brembo stickers (have no other AMG parts on the car, so didn't feel like putting AMG stickers back on made sense - am indifferent to the Brembo ones, but will at least leave them on until I swap out for my winter tires in November)

And the final result:

Haven't driven the car in a couple of weeks, but from driving it before then, I really like the improvement in braking. I'd give it two thumbs up.
Enjoy. Be gentle!

Looks sharp! Especially cool with your OZ Ultraleggera wheels.
The C32/55 calipers could also suffice as a worthy boat anchor in their next life. Be that as it may, their ability to scrub off triple-digit velocities in order to safely get ‘round the next bend has yet to fail me. A decent set of pads and you’re ready to get after it. There’s little doubt that they are a worthwhile upgrade.
Curious, though, about the Racing Brake rotors. They’re supplied as a side-specific directional pair, yes?

Looks extremely good Tommy!
I'm thinking about Brembo stickers for my set too, but I'll have to decide later when I actually get the rotors/brakelines/etc!

We're having a NJ meet on Sunday, so I'll take better pics; I haven't really taken any full car pics in a long time.
Linden - there's going to be one SCCA autox at Etown that the NNJ chapter of the MBCA will be involved with - I'll probably do that event with this car. You should think about it.

Bout ETown, date and time? where you guys meeting on sunday duh, i might pass by...

This Sunday's meet is at Roosevelt Park in Edison, behind the Menlo Park Mall, 1-ish, probably about the time you'll be waking up from whatever you'll be doing on Saturday night.
I just checked the NNJ section of MBCA, and don't see the autocross listed in the events section. I know that I saw it somewhere, though, sometime in July or August.
Congrats on getting married - you're a braver man than I!

I think what John is hinting about, is if they are a side-specific directional pair, they appear to be on the wrong side. Slots should sweep in the other direction. If they are not side-specific direction pair, disregard. Either way, Originally Posted by splinter

for a nice setup.
Yeah, now I see what you two mean. I'll have to look at the car more closely when I work on it tonight. If they're on wrong, I'll crack up. Originally Posted by johnand

.. hahaha .. i might pass by , if car gets out of the shop on time..
Well, I just talked to Anthony at TVT, and he said that they're on right; said that initially they had put them the other way around, then looked at RB's instructions and they're correct how they are on now. I'll trust him until the car brakes backwards.

Yea, we originally installed them the way I'm used to seeing, but then I was assured by my father (he works with me) that they were wrong. Looked at the instructions (doesn't make me less of a man) and I was wrong. They way they are now is the correct way.Originally Posted by tommy

I also have the RB 2 piece rotors on my C55 and as Anthony says, the instructions tell you to do just the opposite of what you'd think...Originally Posted by TVT_DESIGN

Nah, didn’t intend to imply that they were installed incorrectly. Know that TVT is a competent outfit.
There’s no shame to be associated with having read and followed an aftermarket manufacturer’s instructions.
It has always irked me a bit how MB saw fit to cast one part for both sides on their ‘high-end’ brake rotors. It’s not like they’re charging Kia prices in the showroom or at their parts counter. Might fit some Racing Brake rotors if I can rationalize them to the accounting department.
Looking forward to some pics of the NJ incorrigibles and their machines from this weekend’s BBQ. :p:
