Power Steering Noise

Power Steering Noise
Hey Guys,
I was making a U Turn when I heard my power steering make noise. As I turned the wheel more it sounded like a dog yelping. More like a very high pitch scream. Then when I was pulling into my driveway I did some tests. I pulled in there slowly turning the steering wheel and nothing but when I turn the steering wheel quickly I get noise. Is this from my wheels? Are they heavy? The reason that I am asking is the PS Fluid is perfect. What can cause this kind of problem? Car has 27,000 miles.
Thanks
P.S. Again it's a very high pitch noise, then makes like this rumble noise (vibration).
I was reading on the thread for hours. Can not come to a conclusion. Do rims cause steering problems?

One other thing & 99% of the time it's the problem. Check the fluid level!!!!. These systems are very sensitive to fluid level. 50ml can be the difference between silence & noise. i.e small amounts of air shreaking through the valves.
I know you say the fluid is perfect - check it again. I had noise a few weeks back swinging out of my garage. Popped into the dealer & we put in a rediculously small amount of fluid and all was silent. Turn steering from lock to lock 5 times to bleed.

Thanks for the prompt reply guys. The fluid wasn't perfect. Maybe since I checked it at night I didn't see it correctly. It is below the minimum line
I have additional questions.
Why would the power steering fluid be so little. Does it get used up that quick?
Also if anyone would be kind enough to direct me to what kind of power steering fluid I need.
Thanks,

It should be a closed system (all systems I've ever seen, but I'm an MB n00b). You have a leak somewhere, and if it's not dripping or making a mess, just keep an eye on it.
You can get it (fluid) from the dealer, or ask the parts/service department what type (it is actually specified in your manual, and if I wasn't doing homework, I'd check). I'm not sure if you can just add up to the full line and do that lock to lock thing to bleed properly... maybe on these newer systems you can (I am more familiar with older vehicles)

No - No! - PS fluid & brake fluid are not the same. Stand facing engine. Pull of RHS air intake hose - below that you will find the PS reservoir.

Ok so I checked, thanks for the thread with the pics as well.
I checked the dipstick is was MIN. Then I wiped it off and checked again and this time no fluid came on the dipstick.
I checked and I do not see any leaks. Is this something I should be scared about or is this normal?
Thanks again Glyn

No need to be scared. If you have a leak it is likely the flex pipe that goes into the back of the rack. You would know. It drips on the exhaust & smokes & stinks.
