Turn signal annoying
I find the turn signal very loud and annoying to the point that I don't really use it. I assume it's because of the relay switch Mercedes used. Is there any way to swap this out with a quieter one?

Have you listened to another C Class - Is yours typical? I find my unit very quiet. I suggest a new flasher unit but only if you have a particularly noisy one. You could also locate the damn thing and put some sound deadening material on it.

Mine is loud. I find this typical of 2005 model cars. I've driven a 2007 and it was quieter but all the 05s I drove sounded the same way. So this is why no one hardly uses the turn signal anymore!!

But ya I never use it and when I accidentally do I turn it back off. Sitting in a stop light with the blinker on drives me crazy. Sounds like I'm driving a cheap car.

I have to agree with the loudness/cheapness of the sound on my 2005. I've had several 06 and 07 loaners, but don't recall them being quieter.
My 1986 Buick Regal was the total opposite...couldn't even hear them when they were blinking.

Yes, I agree, mine is noticable to the point of overpowering the radio when not set loud.
Really annoying.
Sounds like someone is tapping a spoon on a metal bowl.
Going to take apart the column and relay this weekend to see if I can tone it down.
Glad others have experienced the same thing with their 05's.
Thought it was just with my car.
Maybe the MB engineers thought all future drivers would be hard of hearing??????
Would rather lose my hearing to loud metal music than a clicking turn signal anyday.

I have an 07' and mine is loud too - I was just thinking that this morning when I used the turn signal. LOL
The turn signal in my 05' c320 didn't seem as aloud...

I really don't find it to be a problem. Anyone ever drive old Benz cars? I have driven a W126 and you can't hear its turn signal. But I'm more bothered by the cheap feel of clicking the turn signal stalk than I am by the loud ticking.

Please post some pics when you do take the column apart.
Damn German engineers...maybe the engineer was old and couldn't hear well instead?

I wonder why the older ones are not noisy - maybe different OE supplier

I look at this complaint as a positive. If this is annoying enough to post a thread about, it says something about the ownership experience the OP is having. I have no problems with my 2005. The turn signal clicks loudly, yes, and the stalk feels cheap to activate - but if that's the big complaint I'm happy!
Edit: The BMW has turn signal controls that are confounding at first.

I think the loudness is good. This way it actively reminds you its freakin on.....I hate when I'm driving on the freeway and the idiot in front of me (sometimes even semi trucks) forgets that their turn signal is on and drives for mines with it on!!

LOL you just need to stay away from them period. They either have their stereo too loud or just not paying attention to their driving.
