I've done it before numerous times, never had a problem either. Just check and re-torque them after driving around some miles like others have said.

No biggie. My buddy from SD has an extra set of 20 and is supposed to be sending them my way. I appreciate everyone's help!

Lug bolts question

I'm searching for 12x1.5x20mm lug bolts. Can't find them anywhere. I can only find RAD wheel locks in that size. Weird they don't make the lug bolts in the same size. Can I use locks all around?

buy some that are a shade long, run a nut down them to use as a straight edge and cut them off to your desired length. lightly sand down the ends and you are good to go.

i'll check my stash to see what i have when i get home. i've got a couple sets, unsure of the size off hand though.

Here's a site where I bought my bolts. http://www.ezaccessory.com/Lug_Bolts_s/20.htm
They may not have the exact size you're looking for but per bumpnzx3 :"cut them off to your desired length".

WHERE'S MY NUTS???!!!!

Friday afternoon: I was washing my rims and lo and behold I have one lug bolt missing(rear wheel drivers side).

Where could it be?

I had some service done last week for tire replacement so I went back to the shop today & they told me it was already missing as noted by the mechanic.

I had the tires balanced a month ago at the same place & nobody mentioned a missing bolt then.

Stolen maybe? Where I work is very safe. Why just one?

I say, the last guy worked on it probably lost it & just noted on his sheet that it was missing to cover himself...a possibility or I was driving with a missing 'nut' for a month.

Car was running fairly smooth after it was balanced last month...and now it vibrates a little @ 45 mph +.

Manager offed to pay for it but it's only $1.89 online & I ordered 3.

YOU GOT OUR ATTENTION.

Now that you sorted your nuts from your bolts

I'll bet on your tyre shop - One more for their collection of 1000s

Wait, so the tire shop noted you were missing the bolt, but failed to tell you verbally?

HUGE SAFETY issue.

I'd be hella mad. This coming from someone who has lost a wheel on the freeway once. It is no picnic.

Imagine all the vehicle dynamics that you have grown a custom to being completely gone. Stopping a three wheeler and moving over safely is all in God's hands.

YES! No verbal comm.
HUGE SAFETY issue I agree. I can be missing more than 1 'nut' & not know it.

I'm mad but what can you do? Just couldn't get how it will just go missing.

I'm missing only 1. Bought an extra 2 just in case one might develop legs and walk out.

Yes - walking on the middle leg is uncomfortable.

A mental hospital near me has a full size theater. Once I took a print to show the staff and patients. Leaving the lot a patient behind the fence called me and pointed to my wheel. He thanked me for showing the film and told me I had only three nuts holding the wheel. I said, what should I do? Call AAA? He said no, just take a nut off the other wheel and put it on this one. That way you'll have at least four on each wheel in the front. I took the nut off and put it on the other wheel. I thanked him and said that was pretty smart, what are you doing in here? He said "I'm not in here because I stupid, I'm here because I'm crazy.

My dity bag has two sets of nuts. Makes me walk proud. One set for the Ronal alloys, and one shorter set for the spare. It also has a belt, filters, oil, brake fluid, a thimble of PS fluid, lamps, and distilled water.

I’m with emrliquidlife on this one. Where was their fiduciary duty?

When working on my sister’s VW brakes while a preteen, I inadvertently neglected to properly torque its wheel lugs. Goes without stating the obvious that it was soon planted forlornly on the macadam about a mile from our driveway. Mom claimed she thought I’d intended to kill a kin. Although my sister(s) may have seemed to deserve it at times, actually doing so never entered my consciousness.

Been a damn stickler for verifying my automotive mechanical tasks ever since then. They’re not to be trifled with when the lives of its occupants or innocent passersby rely on doing things correctly.

/sermon

edit: swell Eagle Scout dity bag you carry, Moviela.
