What you need:

- 3 to 6 Packs of Sylvania Bulbs #2721 or #2723 (Got them from Pep Boys, 2723 is brighter)
- 2 Torx Screwdrivers # 9 and 10
- Flat Head Screwdriver

Step 1- Removing the Mirror Housing
There are four screws in total accessible from the mirror side. Use the controls to move the mirror away so it can be accessed easier. Use the #10 screwdriver to remove 3 screws, but use the #9 for the inside corner screw. Its hard to get the screwdriver in there, so a slightly smaller size head would work well.

After removing the screws, tug carefully until the outer lip of the mirror cover is out. Then, lift the outside housing UP then OUT... It won't come all the way off, but enough for you to work with the bulbs.

Step 2- Changing the Bulbs
To change the bulbs, just use a small, flat screwdriver to pop the lights up. Don't try pulling the wires as you might break them. Simply pull those orange lights out, and put the new ones in.

Now, you can change all 6 bulbs per housing, but I recommend not to. I suggest you just change the 3 on the outside. Doing so will automatically shutoff the 3 on the inside (different voltage). You can change all 6 per housing, and all 6 will light up, but it won't be as bright as if you only changed the outside 3. BUT, DO NOT REMOVE the 3 orange bulbs inside. Just leave them in place. Just change the outside 3 if you wish, or change all 6.

And thats it. Just go backwards to put everything back. BUT, PLEASE TEST that everything works and all lights blink and flash appropriately before re-assembling the mirror housing.

TIME FOR A FIELD TRIP

To see if you car is able to do this mod, look at your driver's side mirror, make sure you can see the small amber bulbs, they should look like this picture. 3 going in a straight line, and 3 going down the side, making a "T" If you want to do the 3 bulb mod, change the white bulbs only. If you remove the yellow bulbs, it will not operate. If you want to do the 6 bulb mod, then change both the yellow and white bulbs on the diagram i quickly did. This is how your mirror should look like if you can do the mirror mod, only its all amber. 3 running along the middle, and 3 running down the side, read at the post above this for the "Field Trip" and see what im talking about.

It is illegal to show any white light to the rear of the car, except the license plate lights.

Just out of curiosity... Do you "amber haters" also replace all "yellow/amber" bulbs in your house with "white" ones? Or would it be "black light"?

as far as my house is concerned, i don't think any of my bulbs are amber, they're white. you have amber bulbs in your house?

i've hyper whited all my turn signal lights and no cops have pulled me over. Its totally legit im assuming, maked of LED M3 mirror for import cars also have hyper whites and they say it is DOT approved. So why not do it to a benz.

Just to clarify, the three vertical bulbs light the rear facing lens in the outermost vertical edge of the mirror housing, so that drivers behind your blind spots can see that you're changing lanes. That's what Lynn means by rearward facing white lights. Change them to whites and technically you are in violation in all but two or three states.

White lights=front of car/headlights
Red lights=rear of car/tail/stop/signals rear corner markers
Amber=front parking and corner-fender markers/optional rear turn signals

Mix and match as you choose = chaos, and no defense in court if doing so contributes to an accident.

Oh, and don't use the 2721 Sylvania's. I have them on my C230k, and they're so dim they can't be seen from the front, even at night. It looks a lot cleaner in the daytime though, no more orange. Haven't tried the 2723s, but I'm assuming they're the better choice. The difference is the wattage (2721 = 2.1W, 2723 = 2.3W).

I changed the driver sidemirror to the 2723 bulbs and left the passenger side with the orange bulbs. The difference in color isn't that much of a difference. It is a whiter, but still very yellow/orange.

Viktorius, you said you changed them to Hyper White? What bulbs did you use to get hyper white in there? Thanks in advance.

IMO white blinkers dont look good. clear bulbs that blink amber are a different story!
