I dont think I like them enough to buy replicas, theres other wheels I like so much better. I just found a set for $300.00 with tires and only 200 miles on them. I thought that was a hell of a deal

Staggered wheels on a 4-matic?

Seems like there are differing opinions around here about whether or not staggered wheels are OK to install on a 4matic W203.
Will they cause my car to explode into a fire ball with enough force to destroy the world?

Thoughts? I'm thinking about getting the 2007 C230 sport wheels for my car.

Mine works fine for the past 3 years. I do have the rear tires larger than most others are using to keep the overall diameter less than 0.1% difference for front and back tho. See my sig or my thread for the spec.

No problem with rolling circumference matching to ensure that the differentials are not overworked.

The guy at dealer said it was ok, but I still have doubt...
What you guys think? I wanted to put the staggered amg 5 twin spokes of the cl63 on my mom's cl550 4matic. Is it safe?

LOL - there is no sound technical reason for not running staggered set ups on 4matics with care on tyre matching. If the rolling circ of the rears is 10% larger than the front of course you would open yourself up to potential trouble.

I have an '07 C280 4matic that I bought with a CPO warranty. I put a set of 17" CLK staggered wheels on it and the same size tires that come on the '08 4matic sport with the factory staggared setup. Mercedes offered a 17" staggared setup on the '08's with the same drive train we have and still do. Extra gear in the transmission but otherwise the same. They balanced the tires and did a 4 wheel alighment and told me the car looked great. I agreed and drove off with a big smile on my face. Go to the MB website and build your own C300 4matic sport and you will see the wheel and tire size. Why ask for opinion when the manufacturer already answered your question?

Enjoy, Greg

c300 is a w204 and you and i drive a w203 i'm sure it is not problem if you only wanna keep the car for a few years like 5 lets say but if you plan on keepin it forever i would'nt i run same size all around just my opinion

but staggered wheels do look siiick

btw if you plan on using oem wheels i would just go for it... i just really wouldnt do biiiig lip on 4matic OEM sport wheels are fine imo

As far as the drive train goes the only difference between the W203 and the W204 is an extra gear in the trans. The W204 is completely new with suspension changes and all but the 4matic setup and even the motor is the same. The W204 has different hubs at the wheels so a different offset. Be careful which 17" wheels you get. If you are buying a wheel set from a W203 with staggared wheels you will be fine.

Enjoy, Greg

Will these fit? (Rims / Tires)

I'm looking to swap my ugly stock 2005 C240 4matic rims with these:

http://www.finishlinewheels.com/MERC...07/A-65436U20/

They are OEM 2007 C230 sport rims. I plan on buying 4 "front" rims rather than the staggered rears (I don't think the extra rolling weight is worth it as it will slow down my acceleration, plus with 4matic I'm not going to spin the rear wheels anyway).

Will these fit properly on my car? Same hubs so they will be a perfect hub centric fit, right?

Thanks!!

Everything will fit fine but I think fronts on the rear are going to look screwy & too narrow. Why don't you put rear wheels all round like splinter

I think that is a very pretty rim style - wish we had them here

I figured the extra width would significantly add to the unsprung weight compared to my stock wheels and tires which are only 7" wide VS 8.5" on those for the rear.

Will I feel a difference going with the larger ones in the back?
Keep in mind this is a C240 4Matic so there isn't any power to spare!!

like glyn said. it'll just look very stupid with front wheel on the rear. the difference in weight is insignificant if you are getting these wheels to begin with.

if you are doing this for performance reason get them in the rear setup and shurd them with 235's all around.

acr - you won't even feel power differences. I already run the optional 225 (up from 205) all round on my car and with a rim change I'm going to 235 front 245 rear. The suspension can easily handle slight changes in unsprung mass.

The only area that running rears up front will effect slightly is scrub radius. This makes the car more inclined to tram line. I think the 4Matic will tend to counteract this because you have some power transfer to the front.

I agree with Frank that 235 all round would be a great compromise. The tyres will be very secure on a 8.5 rim.

Thanks for your help guys!
I think I'll stagger them.

This is going to sound bad, but I don't know anything about tire sizes, so what would getting 235 compensate for? I'm not even sure what that is a measurement of ...never bought tires in my life! I know, this kind of question deserves the answer "STFF!" I'll do that later today!
