Bad Service - What to do?

My C230K is in the shop for some repairs on the front end due to an accident. It is supposed to have been finished by the 24th. I called today for an update, and was told:

"We ordered the wrong parts, and are unsure which parts will be back-ordered until tomorrow."

With the timeframes that MB parts take to get delivered, I consider this very poor service, if my car takes an extra week to fix due to a mistake like that should I ask to be compensated?

If you were in the same situation, how much of an @$$hole would you be, cause they have now admitted to it being their fault the vehicle cannot be repaired on schedule, but how much are they obligated to meet the estimated date?

I just miss my car and was hoping it'd be done sooner rather than later .

Deal with it, we are all human and prone to make mistakes. Unless you are perfect and never make a mistake you should just be happy they were honest with you about it. I suppose the accident was not at all your fault and that is why you demand the parts guy to be perfect as well.

Do not upset the body shop, your car will suffer the wrath of the body shop. An example would be a rush job leaving you with an unsatisfactory job. Damage to your car, need I say more. Working in the service industry people do make mistakes and sometimes it is not the guy working on the vehicle, it could be some parts lizard who cannot read or write.

Do you have another MB dealer near you. Maybe next time if your not happy with these guys you can take your car to some other MB dealer and compare. Most of them are not perfect. It has been almost 3 months and i am still waiting for a Gasket from Germany. But since i have another ride i am not complaining much.

Accident, my fault, being paid via insurance, BUT I only have a $900 max in loaner rental available, thus the longer the car is gone, the more likely I will have to pay outta my own pocket to rent a car to replace the car I wrecked.

Yes the accident is my fault, but for every additional 2 weeks to rent a car is like $500 more I have to spend due to someone else's incompetence. I do expect more from an MB dealership than from a Honda/Chev/Ford dealership.

I understand the logic, "don't f*** with them, they'll screw up your ride", but that is why I will wait until the car is repaired before filing any sorta complaint, and there are 2 dealers in town, if this is a bad job it will go to the other dealer, as well as my future business.

I work in the tech industry, we give our customers deadlines for when the product should be developed, if we miss those deadlines we incur penalties.

As for "perfect parts", regardless if the accident is my fault, and regardless if I drive a $5K car or a $50K car, if I pay for someone to fix it, I expect it to be fixed, and if they give me an estimate, I expect them to keep to it, or justify the the additional time/cost. Human incompetance is not a justification, it just instills even less faith that they have any idea how to repair my car adequately.

Was the car driveable? When my father had his dealership he did body work as well. Once in a while a part gets missed on the estimate as you do not find everything until you get all the parts off the car. But if the car was driveable then we did not have the customer drop it off until the parts were in, that way they did not need a loaner. I think most MB dealerships probably think you can afford to incur the cost of a loaner for this type of event. Unfortunately I would not want to pay for it so if the insurance company has some limit I would have waited for the parts to drp it off. Or I would raise hell with the insurance company since that is what you are paying for. I did not realize you had the insurance limit so sorry about that. And being a Benz dealer fixing it they should realize that it takes time for parts to get there, so they should be more carefull ordering. I would make them incure the extra for the loaner before letting them complete the work, or take it to another dealer or repair shop.

I understand, working on Benz's for years the parts are difficult to order in the past, however using the VIN on the vehicles expedites the process. Just like the guy who's pulley destroyed the crank, they had to order it from Germany. It does take time with a Benz. Now maybe you can negotiate a deal with the body shop explaining the situation with the loaner. Maybe they can help in that area. Just a suggestion.

. Human incompetance is not a justification
Both are unrealistic and unreasonable expectations in the real world.

Everyone makes mistakes, but if they have to take responsibility for them, ask them to pay an extra two weeks rental, or see if the guy who ordered the parts wrong, will let use his car for a couple a weeks
