How do you paint OEM grill?

Hey guys looking to paint my OEM grill white. I have a 2006 c280. I saw the white grills they have on eBay for our W203s, but I prefer a white grill without the large hood star and I would like to save money. How would I go about this? Simple sanding, primer, painting, and clear coat? Or am I way off? Any help is much appreciated.

I painted mine. Scuff the chrome, give it 2 coats of self adhesive primer, 4 coats of black primer, 4 coats of black enamel, optional 2-3 coats of clear gloss.

Good thing you answered. I was going to say sand it down and paint it

i painted my grille 3 times, 2 times 2 flies were stuck on my paint i had to wait 3 days for the massive coats of primer and paint to dry out. After spending close to $60 bucks on spray paint and sanding paper, i learned my lesson, take it to a professional. Charged me 30 bucks for it, and it looks 1000000X better than spray paint!. (I wanted to kill myself after the guy told me 30 dollars).

Hey LinDenKid, that's a great idea, I had no idea it was that cheap! The primer, paint, and clear coat is already around $40. BTW where would I go about finding a shop to do this for me? Do I simply call around for automobile painters or do I need to go to some sort of specialty shop?

Your car is white right? ,first of all try to ask any of your friends or family members if they know any reliable body shop. After that go and shop around for prices and DON'T let them rob you because you have a benz , the difference between mercedes paint and toyota paint is probably 15 - 20 dollars for a can if so , trust me it will look much better and it will save you from a fight with the wife for staying in the garage for 3 days straight (me). LOL

+1, if you look at the grill, the chrome thingies can also be popped out and that way you can sand it down even better. this is what i did and it looks good even after 5000mi on the highway
