How much can you negotiate a car?

Hey guess I've been shopping around for a 2007 C230. I don't really care about options because it really didn't come with much options for that year so' i'm pretty content with whatever model i find. I see a lot of 2007 C230 with about 30-35K miles for about 18,000-20,000. How much you think i could get it down to? Obviously I did my research for the price of the car and also depends on the salemans and ur attitude but if anyone with experience please info me. I was thinking of knocking only 1500 off is that to much or too little?

Where can you get a C55 for $18k?! They're all $25k+ in my area.

I think I ended up paying something around $18k out the door for my car. I bought it through work so I didn't negotiate much since I looked around and I couldn't get the same thing for less than $21k. Even after paying $1300 for unknown previous wreck damage to the strut tower, I still think I got a decent deal.

New York. I did a 300 miles radius search. I really don't mind flying out there and driving the car back. So you would say knocking off 2000 at least would be easy?

as much I want the C55 I like the 2007 facelift a lot better including the interior and wheels. If i wanted a fast luxury car I kinda looked at the G35 and IS350. I'm 25 now and i've definitely slow down a lot since i first started driving in 16 (no tickets knock on wood) and HP isn't a thing for me. 200HP is good enough for me. A pathetic as this may sound i wanted something just as fast as my Saturn L V6 which is just as fast as the C230. Can't compare both but for what i want in speed the C230 is perfect. I would like the C350 but i'm not going to pay 5k more just for 60 more HP.

THE C350
what do you mean 2007 facelift. as far as i know their is not really any change from 2005-2007 on interior. the c230 engine in the 05 is the 4 then in 06-07 it is the v6. +1 for searching craigslist. i found some in my area that looked nice. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...370584445.html
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...361084451.html this one is overpriced i think but it is a dealer and i am sure you could get the car lower than that.

Relative of mine paid $21,000 for a CPO 2007 C230 (white/gray, power seat package, sunroof package, lighting package) with 24,000 miles back in May. Asking price was $24k from Benz of Buckhead.

The market is picking up, people are out there buying used cars now. I was surprised when I had 2 cars not moving last month and all of a sudden, wham, got full asking for one and a few hundred off on the other. But you can always negotiate, there's plenty out there to chose from, just low ball them and see what happens.

What happened is car dealers stopped ordering cars early, so many are low on inventory. For example, I could have gotten a 2010 Mustang convertible for $4,500 off 2 months ago, now you can barely get $1,000 off. On top of that, Chrysler stopped making cars for 3 months. The cash for clunkers programs stripped dealers of any inventory. It's a much tougher climate to buy now. My kid was lucky to get $1,500 off on a BMW, didn't even cover half the sales tax. So I think what you may be seeing is people buying newer used cars because they got priced out of the new car market. For example, last year, my buddy got a C350 for $6K off, not anymore, the best I could get was $3K off for a 2009 leftover.

Really depends on the dealer and their bottom line (which you will likely never know). Chances are they have at least $4,000 in mark-up, often times more. The best you can hope for is to walk out the door at KBB private seller worth, but even more likely that you'll get it at or just below KBB retail. The truth of the matter is, money talks... so the more money you have to put down, the better the deal. Your credit is also a huge factor.

Something to consider when buying... the dealer DID NOT pay KBB trade-in value, they bought it for around $2,000 under KBB trade-in and put approximately $1,000 into after (advertising, new tires, tune-up, detail, etc.). So lets say that KBB trade-in is $14,500, they probably got it for $12,000. Then put about $1,000 into it bringing their bottom line to $13,000. Of course they want to make a profit... so they advertise it for $18,000. That $5,000 mark-up is your play money... if you meet in the middle, say at $15,500 or around there, you've got a decent deal. Just remember, the dealer is always going to make money, that's what they do.

Each dealer is different but usually the last number on the price indicates how low they can go.

for example at W.I. Simonson (hate that dealer) i got my car down to 19994. The 4 at the end indicates they will no longer go any lower. 19998 the 8 indicates they can go down. 19996 the 6 means they can go down a little but will throw in some stuff.

Maybe if you find a cool guy who works at the dealer you can ask him about those numbers.

Just for comparison in February 09 I got a 2006 C350 sport Sedan for 19,994. With warranty that will end in this November. The miles at the time were 21,000 miles.

So that should give you a lot of room to bargain (no offense and i'm not trying to sound like mr. hotshot) since it's a c230 and has a little higher miles.

Good Luck
